Both shifts are busy. I’ve been an rt for 6 years, I did nights for the first 4 years. It’s nice because you rely on teamwork more. Night shift can be just as busy, but it’s a different kind of busy. Nights aren’t bad, but your days off kind of suck, that’s the hardest. Nights are good when you’re just gaining your confidence and skills.

I’m a nursing assistant right now, pending to get into the respiratory care program. I was enthusiastic about night shift but it’s messed up my sleeping schedule so bad (as an NA) that I told myself when I become a respiratory therapist that I’m going to do day shift. I’d rather wake up early than sleep through my day and always be tired

Hi Cecelia! I love your videos and vlogs because RT is something I’m very interested in! I’m currently getting my certificate in medical assisting, but want to go to RT school maybe a year after to see if the place I will be working in will offer me tuition reimbursement. I was wondering what degree you have bc I can only find associates with RT or continued from your associates to bachelors.. Please continue on making videos! I’d love to see more of your journey!

1 second ago As an RT do you call the shots? Also is it mandatory to work Saturday and Sunday? Can you choose to work only Sundays if you aren’t able to do Saturdays? And do you do heavy lifting?

Hi Cecelia. These videos are fantastic I'm interested in this occupation but I find myself a little reluctant to pursue it to be honest. These are my issues that has me feeling the way I feel. 1) The job outlook is bleak. (At least in Canada it is) I've seen way more jobs available for Nurses than I have for RT's 2) it seems like many of the jobs (you do come across) Are temporary so you get hired knowing that you'll eventually be let go once your contract ends. 3) You have to relocate in order to have a job in many cases which makes this field not exactly ideal if you have a family because having to relocate would be hard on your loved ones and you have to face the reality that your loved ones may not want to move with you or be in a position to move with you. 4) I find that when people talk about this occupation they highlight and paint such a pretty picture of all the pros that make the field sound great but every time I hear about the pros I can't help but think to myself what am I not being told?

Thank you for watching! Of course this field is not for everyone. I can’t quite give advice because I’m not familiar with the outlook in Canada. However, if you’re finding more cons than pros, I would listen to that
@mikeh2129
@mikeh2129 2 жыл бұрын
@@ceciliaamorena3353 I understand what you mean. It's not that I wouldn't enjoy the job. I already know I'll enjoy it. I just wish RT's that work in the field were more transparent about the reality of the occupation not to discourage people but so that people could make more informed decisions. Don't hide the fact that there's a possibility that you'll have to uproot and move away from family and friends to only God knows where for a job. Don't hide the fact that there might just be a possibility that you'll end up in a cycle of working for an employer for as long as your needed and then you'll be let go and then have to update your resume and start job searching all over again. These are things prospect students should know beforehand and not after they start the program. Don't hide the fact that because of the nature of this field in particular that RT's aren't exactly the easiest people in the world to be in serious relationships with. I just find it frustrating that specific details such as what I mentioned are being left out. That's all. Know what I mean?

@@mikeh2129 definitely not the case in the US by any means 😁 there are close to 400 open positions in Just my state alone, most are permanent employment. Also, my perspective is my own and I feel very transparent about it. However, it would be a great video idea to bring some US based RTs together to get some more outlooks. Thank you!

@@ceciliaamorena3353 400 open positions in your State? Lucky you. Here in Canada you have to take what you can get. I'm glad to be aware of this though. You are very easy to talk to. Thanks for being such a sweetheart and replying back. Your an amazing person ❤️

@@mikeh2129 Canada seems like not an ideal place for RTs at all. I'm not in the field but just by reading trustworthy articles, this field is only going to keep growing over the next decade here in the states. In your case, you should be asking these questions to a Canadian RT rather than from the US. Good luck!

It depends on the person and situation. Nights could potentially be better if you have kids and it pays more. It can be beneficial if you don’t like waking up early and prefer staying up later! I’m sure once you adjust it’ll feel like a regular schedule
