Thanks Amy for this video. My wife and I will be in Shinjuku this week staying at Sunroute! 🙂 If convenient can you tell me where the restaurant is where one makes one's own Okonomiyaki. In your video you show it as being on the 3rd floor somewhere with photos of the food under the heading OKONOMIYAKI.

Great choice! You'll be so close to Shinjuku Station (look out for that secret metro entrance right next to the hotel!). The okonomiyaki restaurant I've been to (several times!) there is in MyLord department store at Shinjuku Station. It's on the floor with all the restaurants: g.co/kgs/iCA2xrn Very close to your hotel! Enjoy!

I totally need one of those scarves for winter, they look super soft and cozy! It will have to be later in the year though, I just spent an awful lot of money this weekend cos I finally booked my trip to Japan!! I'm staying Shinjuku right by the government building, I think the view has to be the very first thing I do. Amazing video, I feel like I really know what to expect and I'm super excited!!

What a great little video of Shinjuku. I first visited there in 1982 (staying at Sun Route), and I absolutely loved the energy, variety & friendly bars run by Mama Sans serving yakitori (char grilled chicken pieces on a stick), and trying to strike up a conversation with all their clients. Shinjuku was wonderful then & looks even better now. I think you did a great job capturing some of that feeling & organised hustle & bustle of the place.

It's like nowhere else! Shinjuku's definitely my favourite place to stay in Tokyo as there's so much on your doorstep. It really is a city that never sleeps - so much going on!

Thanks for this video, it will hold me over for the next three and a half months before I get back there myself! I've been to Japan a few times now, but Shinjuku is always the place I feel most 'settled' for some reason - I've enjoyed everywhere else I've been, but Shinjuku is always strangely comfortable for me.

It's the place i enjoy staying the most! But this time, staying in a quieter area, going back to Shinjuku when I wasn't used to it felt like a shock to the system - it's SO busy and crazy! :-) But I like it!

Kabukicho a ‘dangerous" area...it’s safer walking through there than anywhere in London or New York. :) I think Shinjuku is really more like a large borough than one neighbourhood, so closest London equivalent would be the City of Westminster, where most of the West End is located. Likewise for New York its closest equivalent is the borough of Manhattan.
@cakeswithfaces5 жыл бұрын
It's unbelievable how big Tokyo is when you think about it - not just one centre/downtown area but several! I agree about Kabukicho (as long as you stay out of bars and ignore the touts). A lot of people dramatise it online so I want people to know they shouldn't be scared to go there.

Don Quijote in Shinjuku was so packed we didn't really look much, we left after 3 minutes! But the one in Akihabara was a much better experience more space! Taito station in Shinjuku was cool too really cool too. Hoping to do some VR stuff next time. I do want to do a night out in a bar in Shinjuku with my partner too. Lots to do in Shinjuku!

It's a great place to go in the evening. I actually filmed the outside of the VR Zone but it's shut down now! There's one in Osaka too though. All the Taito Stations are great! Arcades are one thing I missed staying in Shimbashi, I thought they'd have them there but there were none!

Hello ! I think Shinjuku is crazest district of Tokyo. Probably you know. It's too much fun, but dangerous on sometimes and at some areas. So, if you go to Shinjuku, please get info of safety tips, before to visit. Please enjoy !

I agree that it's the craziest district! This time, I stayed in Shimbashi (much quieter than Shinjuku). When I went to Shinjuku, it was a shock how busy it was!

Wow, SO busy! Can people live there or is it more of an area for people to shop and relax? It is really lively though! And interesting that there are so many of the same type of thing and that it still works (arcade for instance!). Really really cool!
@cakeswithfaces5 жыл бұрын
I think there are some apartments, but it's basically the centre of a capital city, so it's mostly for going out, shopping, etc. I think because the population density is so high in Tokyo, you can repeat the same things and they'll still get business. There was a similar idea at a matsuri I went to and the food stalls - soooo many and some repetition but there were so many people that it was ok.
@erwindewit40735 жыл бұрын
@@cakeswithfaces It really is a very different world, isn't it :) Here in the Netherlands, there are barely any places where an arcade would still survive ;)
@cakeswithfaces5 жыл бұрын
@@erwindewit4073 Same here in the UK. You only get tiny arcades at the seaside, or at motorway service stations aimed at kids, and they're quite tacky. I wonder if a Japanese style arcade would get visitors if it opened up...
@joxidearmageddonator8824 жыл бұрын
@@cakeswithfaces I thought that too. In Akihabara I went on this arcade machine with a moving seat and almost like pilot controls flying this huge robot weapon thing, I know that people in the UK would go mad for it if they could play it but I've never seen one or anything like it over here
@cakeswithfaces4 жыл бұрын
