Another thing to add is to never have them on when it's bright out. It will burn out the tubes. You can have them on during daylight if you have special caps for them to train in the day.

Are lens caps necessary to protect the tubes, or are they only vulnerable to excessive light when they’re turned on?

Lithium batteries offer better shelf life, much less chance of leakage/corrosion, longer run time, and function in temperature extremes that alkalines don’t. It’s very cold 3/4 of the year here, I only run lithiums in my nvds, lights, optics, GPS, etc.

I have some corrosion in my battery tube. How can I get it out? The battery was in for 9 days from the factory. I bought 123A batteries and they don't fit. Do you think the NVGs the Taliban have will last or break down quickly? Unless they sell it to some other country

What issues can arise if you leave your batteries in NVGs? I’ve always stored my pvs14 with the AA battery in it. I know under extreme heat a battery can explode and erode components, but I’ve always stored everything in a cool dry place. Are there other factors I’m not aware of? Thanks in advance!
@zacharynichols1812

I'm only two days into having NVGs, but from my understanding batteries can leak, and removing them negates that possibility as well as the ill effects of negligently leaving the system on and burning the tubes.

Its not only leaking or exploding batteries, if you leave the batteries in you can accidentally leave the NVG's turned on. Leaving them turned on carries a host of risks.

@@Lunch_Peak Over a year later and I still leave my batteries in. It's probably a stupid decision overall, but no issues yet. I enjoy the capability to pick up my equipment and go to work with no hesitation. I recommend NO one "heed my order" on this exact topic.

Can you put di-electric grease in the battery compartment to help with good contact? and also in case your battery takes a dump it does make for an easier clean up. I just don’t know if it would hurt the nods.

Great videos, thanks for the information. It's easy to forget this stuff when you havn't messed with it in over 10 years. I'm building a PVS-14 and have came across conflicting information regarding nitrogen purging after assembly / tube changeout - some swear by it, others say it's a waste. Why the variation? I found a shop that will do it for $100, it seems like a small price to pay to protect the electronics on the inside. Thoughts? Thanks. I see there is another comment about nitrogen purging from @MM and the reply by @syntaxerrorsix, although I don't think there is a direct correlation between scopes and an MNVD as we don't take scopes apart and rebuild them (but this logic could be wrong).
