he wasn't a 'sinister' artist, his artwork may have been a little sinister at times but he wasn't to my knowledge

The title of this video is an insulting misunderstanding of a great man and his peerless work.

Saw the brilliant painting by Bacon that depicts that vile Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann ( one of the most energetic SS holocaust instigator ) at the art gallery in Sydney with my class. My lecturer from ACU asked me to discuss why I liked this work. I was bursting to go into the story of Eichmanns kidnapping by the Mossad and his subsequent trial in Tel Aviv. YAY JUSTICE. But I just described the twists and turns of the work and how anyone in that position would be the same

Agreed. Many of his paintings remind me of Goya, also ahead of his time.

I wonder how much of his work is as analytic as this makes it sound. I think he painted more by instinct, perhaps interpreting some themes but mostly in direct contact with some dark side of his unconscious: he simply has the images in his mind and works to bring them out.

Exactly my thoughts! The greatest painters usually paint instinctively.

They always avoid the glaring reality of his work - his predilection for being violently butt-fucked by criminals.

Are you sure?, It's posible he can really see in that way... or... he can used deforming glasses... or... he can used special fotographs... or...

Bacon was a fine artist, but I don't think I would have wanted him to paint a portrait of me!

Why do they insist on pronouncing Van Gogh as Van Go … I can’t continue after hearing that as it is so hostile and ignorant it makes me think what else is this person being so horrible about.

I have tried hard to see value in every artist. The very fact they are creating something gives them intrinsic human value, but as art , as fine art, as serious intellectual art; I see little value in Bacon's work beyond witnessing mental illness displayed. It's twisted and disturbing in ways that don't seem to add to the intellectual experience. Maybe i'm blind, I don't think so.

Fine art isn't limited to intellect.Bacon art is a proof of that.It is visceral, instinctive, emotive, raw and both chaotic and controlled. As life is.Great art includes every aspect of life.Intellect is but one of of these aspect. But great Art goes deeper than just intellect.Life is full of beauty and order and harmony as it is full of violence and chaos and difformities.

I feel like to understand the value in someone’s work especially of a somewhat disfigured almost abstract but not really figurative work you may have to relate to it somewhat otherwise it looks vile and not necessary

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but to me, the reason Francis Bacon's art is dear to my heart is *Because* it displays mental illness. As someone who suffers from mental illness, the twisted, distorted forms and vile colours work to visualise the invisible demon that lives in people with mental illnesses.
