I paid off a 30 year mortgage in 4 years, she gets a new car every 4 years, our daughter has a massive college fund and most importantly we've been happily married for 14 years. That whole spectacle that his "influencer" pageant winning now-wife was ridiculous from the engagement party, the bachelorette, the OOT wedding with 3 custom haute couture dresses. It's one day. Why are you spending tens to hundreds of thousands that most don't have...and even if you do have like they did...why? For what? You'll never wear that dress again. I'd rather have 3-4 designer evening dresses I can at least wear twice at outings my husband and I could go together on that we both enjoy. Hell. Spend the money on my dream engagement ring, and I'd be ecstatic. To me, that should be the only thing that costs the most (within reason and budget) as I'm going to be wearing that until death. I'd happily get married at the county courthouse. There's no reason to spend all that money, even if you can afford it, for one day...and all those stupid extra celebrations I mentioned. Mother-in-law had the hookup at the Marriott from previous conferences. Marriage at 27 years and counting today.

The marriage license cost $29.95, and I filled the car with gas for $48.50 that day to go to the Justice of the Peace. Oh, and my wife cooked some delicious ribeye steaks that day, which cost $25.00. The total came to $103.45, and that was 26 years ago. I’m now able to provide my wife with the home she wanted, the car she desires, and vacations whenever she wishes to go.
