This song can be taken in two different way: The happy-go-lucky, let's-go-party attitude that the music gives off, or the deeper, depressing mood that the lyrics give us. Despite the overall care-free tone of this song, the mood that the lyrics give off is actually incredibly depressing and saddening, really. This is a song about an alcoholic drinking so much and partying so hard that she doesn't even know how many she's had anymore. While it's all fun and games, she states, "I'm holding on for dear life. Won't look down, won't open my eyes. Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight." She's going out (or rather staying in, as she's hosting this party) to get drunk to forget about her own life, just trying to holding on for dear life to the high she's getting from this. She knows that she's just holding on for tonight though, and that she'll eventually have to let go of it. Instead of accepting this and working on her issues, she goes out again, trying to keep this feeling as much as she can to forget everything else. This is all just simply my opinion, but I think looking at it this way gives this song so much more emotion, especially if you consider the "chandelier" she's swinging on as a symbol of her hectic life, swinging while she's just trying to keep up or, "Hold on for dear life." I imagine the incredibly high notes in the chorus as more of a scream for help than anything.
