Cultural themes are pretty common in Japanese anime, and you can often tell where the musical style comes from because it generally matches the architectural style. If you see a lot of Middle Eastern architecture, the music is probably Middle Eastern as well. Fairy Tail features a lot of European architecture, and the music also tends to be European in origin. There are plenty of anime series that have more of a Japanese theme, however, and it shows in both the architecture and the music.
