If Giyuu dies, i can imagine this song being played. As Giyuu is in Tajiro’s arms bleeding, he gets a flashback. Him and Sabito are sitting on a tree staring in to the full moon, Giyuu starts to sing this song, and Sabito listens. As The Water Hashira is getting closer to death, the previous children who trained and died under Urokodaki, gather around Giyuu and Sabito, standing on the trees around them, singing along. And at his very last moments, using the little breath he has left, he sings the song him and his friend sang a long time ago.

When I hear this song I think of a young child full of glee and joy running through a meadow and finds a great big tree. The child is amazed by the magnificent tree and then sees an old man sitting under the tree gazing at the sky. The child asks for his name. But the stranger only smiles sadly and instead he points out weird shaped clouds in the sky. The child finds them funny and laughs with him. The child the grows up, but comes visiting the tree many times, and every time the old, kind man is sitting under the tree. The child then becomes an adult and has to move away from the tree. But even though life was difficult and busy, the magnificent tree was never forgotten nor was the old man. The child’s final day at lasts comes. But with one last wish the old child now only wishes to visits the beautiful, childhood tree and the old man, before death comes. Under the night sky and all the shining stars the tree stands as grand and tall as before, and in the shadow under the tree sits the old man. Still the same with his sad and kind smile. The old man simply looks at the now old child and says: “Are you ready to go now?” The child smiles at him, and nods. Then looks at the tree one last time before everything turned to shadow. And so Death accompanied the child to a better place where the child could rest forever under a beautiful tree.

I searched up the song, and the “wear a necklace of hope” was actually “wear a necklace of rope” :0 the song just got a tad bit more darker- You realize the singer of the song is the dead murderer. He's still in the hanging tree. And even though he told his lover to flee, he keeps asking if she's coming to meet him. The phrase "Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free" is the most troubling because at first you think he's talking about when he told her to flee, presumably to safety. But then you wonder if he meant for her to run to him. To death. In the final stanza, it's clear that that's what he's waiting for. His lover, with her rope necklace, hanging dead next to him in the tree. That’s also someting I saw on an article about The Hanging Tree

Yeah Necklace of Rope was too dark for today's society I guess >.
@g.s.6513 жыл бұрын
That's not *quite* right. The singer isn't a murderer, that's why he's talking about the murderer as a separate person. The singer is someone seeking escape with their lover via suicide. It was a practice to kill people judged by the town, way way back in the old days, by stringing them up in a sturdy tree to kill them--but presumably these are two young people who've both lost hope for some reason, and have resolved to die together to be free of... something; society, injustice, their parents, it's basically Romeo and Juliet with hanging instead of a dagger and poison. It is actually very important to the plot that this song is about *escape* (and hope, if extremely grim hope) and not specifically about a hanged murderer. It also mirrors Katniss and Peta trying to choose death by berries in the first movie, even though they were not a couple at that time.
@g.s.6513 жыл бұрын
@@Swifthawk96 Incorrect; it's because in canon there are two versions of this song. Katniss sings the original, "a necklace of rope," escape by death, but when the district is trying to encourage an uprising against the capital, the district leader is trying to prevent people from thinking through the consequences of rising up against a cruel dictator--death--so they change that single word in the song to avoid being too explicit about the fact that all of these revolutionaries are probably going to be slaughtered even if they succeed. :P

this is how i see the song: an innocent man was accused of killing three people, and his death sentence was to be hung up the tree. then, when he died, he thought his love would face many problems because of the deeds he was falsely accused of, so he asked his love to flee (of course, as a spirit). he told her to wear the necklace he gifted her (the necklace of hope) as a way for them to be connected forever and to meet him one last time, by coming to the hanging tree at midnight. this song is really awesome. thank you sinnon
@JabamiLain3 жыл бұрын
Originally, the letter said rope instead of hope, but because in "Hunger Games" the song was for a revolution, they changed the word for hope. So maybe that necklace of hope has a darker meaning than what we are lead to believe.

I imagine this being about a lynching. "They say he murdered three"- lynchings were usually based on hearsay and racism rather than evidence. "The hanging tree"- hanging from a tree was the most common method of lynching. "Where dead man called out for his love to flee"- interracial relations were the ultimate taboo in the pre-Civil Rights South.

Ok I've listened to the song carefully and that's what I believe it means (coming from a Christian) I think it has something to do with the people who were judged unfairly and executed. "They strung up a man. They said who murdered three" gives you to think that the man was a murderer, but if you look at a lyric later it says "Where a dead man called out, for his love to flee". I believe that this man they're talking about was homosexual and he was accused of murder unfairly. The man singing could be a family member of that man that is being influenced by suicidal thoughts. "Strange things have happened here, no stranger would it be. If we met at midnight in the nagging tree" would mean that many people would take their lives in that tree at midnight (because of hunger, pledge, wealth, or because many types of ppl have no rights). "Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free" again is a suicidal thought. "Wear a necklace of hope side by side with me" probably the man's telling someone close (another family member or friend) to go and end their lives together. And then the multiple people singing (Are you, are you, coming to the tree?) Are basically all the suicidal thoughts in the man's head when he was in front of the tree, about to commit it. The choir singing it would be at the funeral and the last time "Are you, are you, coming to the tree..?) Would be the man's friend at their grave, and the same thing happened repetitively. And that is my theory. Just remember, suicide is never the answer, doesn't matter what this life does to you or how you are because God still loves you no matter what. The suicidal thoughts are always from Satan, he tries to fill your head with horrible lies, but God always will be there for you. Have a blessed day! :)

Hey guys, I actually read the rth hunger games book. "From songbirds and snakes" I think is the name. From President snows childhood. So worth the read, if you do not want to be spoiled, do NOT read this. However the meaning behind the song is displayed here. President Snow was a child so lets just call him Snow. He was a very determined child at that and fully supported. byhe capital. He was dirt poor though and tried to hide it because money was everything in the capital. He was supposed to be a mentor for the kids participating in the hunger games. They were treated horribly by the way. Much worse than in the original 3 books. Starved ect. He gets to mentor this girl named Lucy who is am amazing singer. He falls in love eventually and cheats to help her win the hunher games. In punishment he is sent to work as a peacemaker in district 12. Turns out that's Lucy's district. She sings for his town and Snow starts to get jealous of her Ex. Lucy sings this song and Snow things it's for him. As previously his Bestfriend was plannimg to runaway from the capital so Snow being so deciated turned him in. He was hung at "the hanging tree" also the first person to be hung at the tree was a man named Arlo who killed 3 peacekeepers in a rebellion. "He called his love to flee" was him calling out for his wife to leave before she too was murdered. Again Snow thinks the song is for him since the song calls for someone to meet under the tree. (Lucy wrote this song) when in actuality it was written from the perceptive of the ex lover who was telling Lucy he's rather them both be dead than Lucy reject him. In conclusion (MAJOR SPOILER THAT DOESN'T CONTRIBUTE TO THE SONG. JUST HOW IT ENDS) Lucy runs away because the capital is a horrible place and Snow chases after her with a gun. He loved her but she's part of the rebellion. He managed to shoot her we know but either she bled out or managed to survive. He believed that without the capitals harsh order everything would fall to chaos. It was really just capital manipulation :(
