Opinionating was limiteds to actual editorials pieces that had to be followed by a disclaimer. Everything changed with the move to cable formats. First CNN, then Fox, both which ushered in the era of "infotainment" mixing opinion with fact and going for fancy graphics and sets while chasing ratings. A number of years ago whne NBC changed the presentation format for Nightly News with Tom Brokaw to having him stand on a stage in front of video screens, (still the case today with Lester Holt) instead of behind a desk it reminded me more of the film Network, complete with the theme written by renowned film composer John WIlliams (Huntley and Brinkley used the opening of the opening of the second movement from Beethoven's 9th Symphony while the CBS Nightly News with Walter Cronkite's just used the sound of teletypes as the introduction. I miss the days when the news was really "news". Yes it was more boring and "bland" some would say, but far more informative and opinionating was kept to an extreme minimum. I studied Journalism decades ago and what we have today breaks a large part of what I remember learning. Back then we had a term for it: "yellow journalism".
