I’m personally from the Island itself, I can tell you that yes they are a bit pushy when it comes about telling you “come to the beach” but I could also guarantee that they were not going to harm you.. this is how 99% of them put food on their tables by serving tourists. Also adding your uber was a POS

pinned your comment because it's important context! we do need to have _some_ grace for the first driver too though because it seems he just has a lot of unlearning to do.

I will be going to Cartagena for a couple of days and while I'm there staying one night with a "friend" that I met 5 years ago and have seen at least 4 times near the Wall City over the years and on one of the islands where he works. I've met his dad once also. Do you think it's safe for me to spend the night with him and his family in Baru? I've been to Cartagena many times but this will be a first time in Baru. Your thoughts since you are from there?

Great video. I’ll be traveling there soon. I will definitely take your advice and pay for transportation through a hotel or whatever if possible. Glad you all are safe!

If you're going to Getsemani though, it's pretty walkable and taxis from the airport are very reliable. Thanks so. much for watching! I hope you have a BLAST!

how many days did you stay at isla baru? Do you think one night is enough to get a good experience?
@BereniceAchille5 ай бұрын
Only stayed one night. I think it was worth it, I wish we got there earlier in the day (which was the original plan). Two nights would have been better though to fully enjoy all the amenities.

Same thing just happened to us. We ended up telling the uber driver to turn back around to Cartagena. It was scary and our uber driver was scared too.
@BereniceAchilleАй бұрын
the taxi was fine with it but for some reason the Uber driver made it so scary!! I would def just arrange with the hotel or take a real taxi next time. It didn't have to be so bad!

I just came back from CTG and my worst experience was with cab drivers and street vendors. Some drivers are just crazy and reckless. Vendors are like a bug infestation. They are everywhere pushing their stuff and don't let you enjoy your privacy
@BereniceAchille9 ай бұрын
So true! I understand they're trying to make a living but it definitely gets to be a lot :/ ... Getsemani wasn't as bad though even though it was kinda touristy.

i’m from Cartagena working in tourism and i always advice against going to Baru by yourself, people are assholes in that island, they take advantage of tourists, your uber driver was the biggest asshole, i’m sorry you had that experience, next time take the hotel transport
@BereniceAchille10 ай бұрын
I couldn't find much info about going to Baru when I was looking at how to get there. BUT I'm glad to have made it safely. Thank you for watching and for your advice for next time!
@janelleeinalhori9859Ай бұрын
Hi @juan can you recommend transportation that doesn’t cost a leg and an arm
@JuanPerez-qd1irАй бұрын
If you are going to a hotel they should offer transport, if not take a tour by van, is not that expensive

I went to Medellín and it was an absolute no for me! There's no excuse for that drivers behavior. The scamming of tourists was too much. I joined a group chat and met up with a few of the women and 1 woman was almost kidnaped and another was drugged and robbed. I changed my plans of visiting other cities and left the country. 😂 I don't want to see no city/country that bad I'd subject myself to foolishness.

Wow! so sorry to hear of your experience. I'm glad you guys were ultimately able to make it safely and I hope you reported that driver to Uber and got your money back. He definitely should not have done that. I traveled to Baru a couple times but it was only to playa Blanca and I always used the beach club's (hotel's) transportation. I planned on taking an uber to the Botanical Garden in the near future, but this video is definitely making me reconsider that plan. Thanks for sharing!
@BereniceAchille7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching the vlog and for sharing your experience. I think you'll be ok if you take a regular taxi or a regular uber instead of the economical version. Ultimately I think that was the main problem :/
@oliviagilmore81257 ай бұрын
@@BereniceAchille no, I don't think that was the issue, and also going alone leaves the issue of finding a return driver if you're not paying them to wait for you. Riding with the beach club transportation was cool.
@BereniceAchille7 ай бұрын
ah I understand! Good call with the hotel transportation. Getting service out there to call a ride would have been a nightmare. I'm glad it worked out!@@oliviagilmore8125

Im glad someone brings this up. Cartagena was a horrendous experience. The local black entitlement combined with pedophilic travelers is what is making up a big portion of the overall vibe

I actually had so much fun in Cartagena. No place is perfect but I think there's so much more to it than what it's most known for. This was just a bad travel day. I wouldn't say I hate Cartagena. The rest of my experience was pretty good.
@JohnMosquera-ColombiaАй бұрын
Entitlement? What the f are you talking about? I'll be the first to say that Cartagena is not one of my favorite cities in my homeland. But the level of oppression there is off the charts. It's a struggle every single day for survival there. I'd really love to know what you mean by entitlement because I don't know any Afro-Colombians there who feel entitled.
@soreal8127 ай бұрын
I’m actually here now and definitely feel the hustle. To your point, the Afro Colombian are in large aren’t bad people and are just trying to make money. I’m planning my trip to the island for either Monday or Tuesday. Just not sure how I want to get there.

Gringos. I went to baru.. went on the bus.. that road to baru is CRAZY.. i would never driVE MY car through that long dirt bumpy road. If it rains you have nothing but mud.... do excursions in GROUPS people.. this is the way. You dont know they lay of the land.. they do. Baru was the hilight of my trip.. they had the meal and drinks included. They had the snorkeling. A dj.. and i got to relax and take a nap on the bus on the way back to my airbnb.... it was incredibly safe.
@BereniceAchille3 ай бұрын
Agreed, Baru was beautiful!!!! The road was actually not that bad if you have a 4WD tbh, I would arrange transport with the hotel next time but it was definitely a highlight of my trip to Colombia.
@Far7rom3 ай бұрын
@BereniceAchille yup a solo sister that i met down there actually took me to her hotel and the folks at her hotel booked the trip for me. Since I was staying at an airbnb the first few days.. the last 4 days I stayed at the hilton and they upgraded me to the presidential suite so i would recommend that hotel as well if you have hilton status or an amex platinum. It was amazing. I think the day trip was about 50 or 75 dollars. I can't remember.
