You might think from the thumbnail that the worst thing that could happen for a freelancer is the pub could run out of beer. But it is not. Your worst nightmare as a freelance copywriter is to get a bad brief or, even worse, no brief at all. What to do?
I have used a real-life copywriting example to show how I deal with the problem. As a freelancer, you want to deliver the best work possible so you get repeat business. To write effective copy, you need to know who you are talking to, where you are reaching them and why they should listen. A good brief outlines all that. Just writing a brief will focus the client's expectations on what needs to be delivered.
I use the example of a job I was asked to do by a Design Agency. Every Design Agency I have ever worked with knows the benefit of writing a brief, but sometimes, trying to do things too quickly comes back to bite you.
