It's easier to reboot franchises like Halloween and Friday The 13th because Michael and Jason are mute characters wearing masks, so a lot of people can play them. And they were played by multiple people in their original series. But it's much harder with the Elm Street series because Robert Englund's performance is so iconic that nobody can imagine anyone else as Freddy.

The shot of Robert at 34 seconds in, he looks very young! This talk of having another actor portray the role is insulting. There is only one person to play the role, and that is Robert. There shall never be another. Same can be said for other infamous movie characters. Some people look at the goofier Nightmare sequels and forget how scary and terrifying Robert can be in the role, when the tone is right, like in 1-3. It's not necessarily about whether someone could play the role well, it's about whether they should, and no they absolutely should not. There's no improvements to be made on what Robert has done, and there's no "better" version out there. There is only Robert, and Freddy, and you can't separate the two and expect anyone to fully accept that. At the moment, the Craven family is accepting pitches for a new Elm Street sequel, as well as a TV series. Many people are writing their own versions of a final Nightmare film, myself included, and it would be a true shame if Robert didn't play the role one last time, in a darker film akin to the original. A less is more approach, less Freddy dialogue, less over the top stunts and sequences (Would be easier on Robert this way), something more grounded like the original, but perhaps not a direct sequel either... Hopefully, this will happen soon, and will be done properly, in an old school cinematic way, unlike a lot of the cheap and bland looking digital movies of now. 25 - 30 million budget (Might sound high for horror, but a new Freddy movie with Robert would make that back in spades, probably easily equaling Halloween 2018's box office), shot on film, practical FX, Robert back, a dark spooky style like 1-3, less jokes, makeup like in 1-3 and as well made as what Craven and Chuck Russell gave us. Robert looked great in this interview. Looks like he's starting to drop a few pounds as well. Horror icon and legend!
