I think this song captures the mood quite well. This seems to be more from Jack's perspective. No matter what he does to try and explain, how softly he explains it, how fondly he still explains, they continue to ask why and how. He even gets a little frustrated.
@TheXborgers2 жыл бұрын
I don't know why but i kind love this this version. There is something in it. You can feel emotions : the town folk uncomprehension, Jack's desperate attempt to make them understand even if he knows that it is a losing bet. Yes the is something in it. Something Pink Floyd-ish / David Bowie-ish. At first i was kinda...reluctant but hearing the voice acting was good. Very good
@DarkFairy20710 жыл бұрын
I dont think people understand that this wasn't supposed to just be a cover. They didn't make Nightmare Revisited so that bands could mimic the original songs. They took all of the songs and put unique and varying twists on them. Yeah, it's different, very different, but I think its great. I love how much like a Pink Floyd song it sounds and how eerie it is which fits with the whole Nightmare thing anyway. It isn't the strongest song on the album but christ's sake shut up about it "not sounding anything like the original"
@nicholastosoni70710 жыл бұрын
The lead singer does sound a lot like Roger Waters. This is what the song would sound like if Jack were the lead singer of Oingo Boingo, and if he performed it as a huge arena presentation.

7:22 if I close my eyes, I see a beautiful man with blond hair, white pants, no shirt, and a BC Rich Warlock standing on top of a mountain with the sun rising behind him, the wind blowing through his hair, and a convocation of American Bald Eagles soaring across the skyscape playing the solo.

I personally love this version. Honestly surprised people think it's the worst song on the album.
@druvirus8 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I think this song more than any other conveys the actual point of the song: trying to explain the unexplainable to people. The song has this almost drug induced vibe of a guy trying to explain what the sun tastes like to groundhogs or something. It's very lucid and it just makes me think of what Jack actually must have been feeling like.

PanaMacSpana People really say this one's the worst?? The worst by *far* is Jack's Obsession (seriously, it's like herbert from family guy is singing it or something). This one honestly does a great job of simultaneously being it's own thing while still keeping the feel of the original.
@Urteethfairy6 жыл бұрын
to me it kinda is mainly because the children singing
@funkybones6 жыл бұрын
Worst?That one goes to Jack's Obsession..
@plastictree48577 жыл бұрын
Not bad. I actually quite like this. My favorite is Korn's cover of Kidnap The Sandy Claws, and my least favorite is Sparklehorse's cover of Jack's Obsession (Jack's Obsession is my favorite song from the movie, but he ruined it). This is probably my second least favorite. Again, not bad. But to those complaining that it's different, why is that bad? Different isn't always bad. It's okay, in this case.
@alchemystudiosink18943 жыл бұрын
I have to skip sparklehorse's cover. At least this one I can imagine they're doing the whole townhall meeting while tripping on some kind of drugs.
@XOXfreakshowXOX13 жыл бұрын
Holy crap... I love how different it is from the original. Because when you have a cover that sounds different but similar, you're always comparing it to the original. This one is so different, it really becomes its own song. Wow. This is sooo cool.

Such a Pink Floyd vibe when I first heard this song
@FoxVyars6 жыл бұрын
There is an organic element that captures every last ounce of enthusiasm that Jack had regarding a new holiday. The voices and melodies here are replete with influences from David Bowie and a few other artists I could name. It might be the margarita talking or the fact that I prayed to the nine classical muses in my writer studio, but they really captured a visceral and chaotic rendition of being introduced to a new flavor of tradition! Kudos. ~Fox

When the guy voicing Jack sings, it's absolutely epic as is the score. The parts where the town's people sing is a bit too out there for me. I get it. It's artsy and different. I just don't like it. Seriously though, Jack's verses are so freaking phenomenal
@viperv67688 жыл бұрын
No idea why, but I love this version. There is an odd charm to it in my opinion.
@CayenneFox12 жыл бұрын
My only problem is that the back ground singers in the first part kind of break off at odd points and you can hear that it just gets cut off. A bit annoying, but the main verses are pretty fantastical and the children singing in the one point is awesome. And I love that it's over the top and grand. A lot different then the movie, but in a good way.

This version,is beautiful. Its like someone is describing psychedelics and the esoteric world around us, that few ever get to behold. Its beautiful and heartbreaking. Everytime i hear this, all i can see is some sad, sad person trying to describe how amazing they are, while having a deep respect for how powerful they are. Its a tool, not a toy.

at first i was unsure maybe even a little horrified! but after i listend to it a second time i truly apreciated that the band were brave! they went large in true bygone rock operah tradition! and if you listen to the song on its own merists, not just comparing it to the origional you can really wail along, play your air guitar and get into it! chill out people its all in good fun, and it rocks out in its own way :)

It feels like the artistic styling of Fischerspooner meets the music of Pink Floyd as far as artistic goes... This band is artistic, for some people it doesn't work, but for me- This is absolutely amazing. Especially since it seems to have Pink Floyd roots In my opinion, and it definitely gives a different aspect to the town meeting song.

At first I didn't much care for this cover, but the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate it. It's not to be taken in the same context as the the original song in the movie. ... Of course, that's the same kind of argument that could be made to all of the other covers. :B

I like this version 1000 times better than the original. Danny Elfman is my favorite film composer, but the original always made me think of the Mexican hat dance at the end (the 30 seconds before the spoken part).
