It seems Nightmare has some kind of trauma and is not as evil as we thought he was.Clownpierce probably brought him back thinking he could make Nightmare put all of his anger into fighting techno.But when Nightmare saw to much he started losing it.But this brings up the question.What is clowns story?Also Nightmare seems to be close to clowns power level cause he was able to fight clown and it seemed like he was winning.But he also caught him by surprise so maybe that was it.But what I'm wondering is who was talking at the end? It seems like they were talking to Nightmare, but it could be someone else like one of clownpierces mercenaries. Edit: I have thought about this further and I have realized Clownpierce was weakened from reviving nightmare and he had recently fought techno, So he was probably no where close to full power.I honestly think Clownpierce might be the most powerful character in the series.I mean he beat techno.Fought Nightmare briefly after he was weakened by both the fight and him reviving nightmare.Granted he still lost it he was still able to somewhat keep up with him.Also I have a theory that Nightmare could have potentially been corrupted by the 3 hearts.And the loneliness he felt as a child probably further corrupted him.I will edit more later.

I think that after Nightmarr beat Dream, he ran away. And Clown saw him and used the hearts to bury him in guilt and do what he did. I think Clown saw the power in dark emotions and became evil.

I thought at first Clown knew about Nightmares past and wanted to show Techno the truth. But now I’m thinking maybe Clown knew that if he and Techno fought it would always end in a draw and this reason is because Ethan can’t have Techno and Clown fight and one of them win so it will have to always end in a draw so in the story Clown decides to revive Nightmare, thinking he was just a full on evil being, to finally defeat Techno so he can be the superior.

@@SlinkyCorn a nice theory, and yes, I believe Clown knows Nightmare's past, given his lines from Dies Irae: "Concealed his friend out of plain sight"-which he did, he knew Nightmare and pretty much gave him no attention in that flashback as kids. "A sinister secret he sought to keep"-he saw the impact Nightmare's death had with Dream dying and sought to hide the power, giving the mask to Philza.

So, nightmare was actually being controlled by the mask and the clown. He was just broken and misunderstood. And my guess is that when nightmare was brought back, dream was too, and that'd what we just saw. Dream was standing by the tree with his mask in hand. This is by far my favorite of Ethans series, and I can't wait for the next episode.

I might be wrong, but by looking at the Clownpierce mask at the end i think that Clownpierce could be actually Dream all along, but its just an impulsive theory that popped into my mind and i might be completly wrong.

If we look back to the first series, Nightmare was able to somehow merge with Dream, and when that happened, I assume their souls became tethered together, so even though the weapon broke in "Fade Away", the two were still connected. As such, when Nightmare died, Dream died, which makes no sense in the context of "Dies Irae", where Clownpierce appears for the first time. Also in this sense, when Nightmare was brought back, the soul tether or something similar also brought Dream back.

I think nightmare is no longer the villain of sleepwalking. he was manipulated and lied to. clown pierce made a mistake by showing him the dream world, and caused him to get angry, causing him to turn on him. ( 2:17 ) also a detail I noticed, the tables have turned. clown did what nightmare is doing to him at 3:18

THEORY TIME!!!! Ok so hear me out. Perhaps Nightmare all along was a seperate and real person from Dream living in his shadow his whole life up until it led him to severely beat and bring down Dream, leading up to the events of the first season. But in the flashback of Nightmare's past we see a young Technoblade watching his friends goofing around. To sum up what i'm saying... Nightmare and Techno knew each other since they were kids, but Techno never noticed him. Now I believe with that, Techno might have changed views on Nightmare and might not try to kill him now that he knows his past. But that might not be the same with Rek and Phil since they didn't see it. So now in the next episode I believe both Nightmare and Techno's group will get hunted by Clown since they left the scene when Clown was subdued. Also I may have theories on the person at the end holding Dream's mask and it could be Antfrost since he survived in the first season, has claws, and now wants to kill Nightmare for his actions. But it also could be another surviving member of the Dream SMP. Overall Nightmare might become an ally this season and may try to redeem himself and fight with Techno. Oh and in regards to the person speaking at the very end of the video... u know the purple text, it could be Ashwagg or even Ranboo (unpopular opinions but meh). I put this together with combinations of other theories.

I actually really love this episode, nightmare's back story and all that I really hope he's a good guy starting from now and the concept that there are more than 2 masks is awesome. My primary question now is: Has Nightmare been a separate *person* this whole time? We were led to believe Dream and Nightmare were two aspects or personalities of the same person, but now I'm wondering if Nightmare is maybe his twin? In all the flashbacks, he was separated and ignored, which could mean that Dream was just refusing and ignoring that darker aspect of himself, or Nightmare is a separate being entirely, who lived in Dream's shadow his whole life.

So from looking at the video spoilers ahead The reason why nightmare freaked out and started crying and panicking is because the memory of him killing dream was being suppressed, a.k.a. he didn’t know, and once he got the memory back, he immediately felt insanely guilty and freaked out, and eventually went on their breakdown, and after realizing clown was the cause of this he got extremely pissed off

JK I'm not matpat, but I have a theory though: So you see how in the first reality segment both techno and nightmare that are in the dreamscape have this purple-ish haze surrounding them, similar to clown's staff around the Purple Heart. This could mean that clown is trying to bring Nightmare back to bring down Techno, but he lost control. Another thing I noticed is right before the scene of Nightmare beating the shit out of Dream as children, Techno hit the PURPLE HEART SPECIFICALLY, WHICH LED TO NIGHTMARE LEAVING THE MINDSCAPE. In the end, its just a theory though, A FILM THEORY-

Words do not express how well done this animation is, the slow motion, the battle that sync each swing with every beat and the fast pace action and evolving lore, very eager for the next one 👍. The only thing I have to say is every time these quality animations end it’s sadness for a month waiting, even then I’ve seen animators take 4-5 months, Good job 👏👏
