I remember in the late 90s, on a trip with my parents in the interior of Brazil, a highway patrolman at a checkpoint stopped our car and told my father that on that stretch, at night, he was not to stop the car under any circumstances and not to try to help anyone on the road no matter what. We were to continue on our way and report it to the police when we could if we saw anything. At the end he said it again DO NOT STOP. Here in Brazil, it's no joke; even the maps came with reminders on some roads that they were very dangerous with a high crime rate.

Rule of driving isolated roads. If you ever see a car stopped and it’s partially blocking the road. GTFO. Call the cops to help them, don’t ever get out of your car. People set up ambush points like that to rob or worse. Remember most people try to move their car to the side of the road in case of emergencies. If they didn’t, there’s a reason; don’t stick around to find out why
@sealyoness6 ай бұрын
My thought as well. A car in the middle of road, in the middle of nowhere, is a red flag. Calling the cops would be the second thing my late husband (and my uncle too, who also drove freight.) The first is to take a good look and try to get around it.
@ranchintime22076 ай бұрын
Fr. I was plowing snow in a sketchy city, driving one of those big dump trucks, and a car swerved in front of me, stopping in the middle of the road, blocking me from going forward. I slammed on my brakes after kind of skidding, and sat there, hazards and strobes on. I thought he had popped a tire, had a mechanical issue, or there was an emergency. The guy gets out of his car and starts walking up to my truck furiously, holding something black in his hand. I did not know if it was a gun or a phone. Like bro it's 1am, -17°F, in the middle of a snowstorm with 30mph winds. I am NOT sticking around to find out. I'm a safe driver. I didn't hit anything, block any driveways, cars, or mailboxes, etc. There was NO reason for this guy to run up on my truck. I backed up and went down a side road. Bro followed me and laid on the horn until I got onto the main highway. I called my foreman and I guess a couple other of our company's drivers and operators got harassed too. A guy actually got a gun pulled on him and another one had a trash can thrown at his windshield. We were 28 hours in so I guess they thought we'd be easy pickings. Not even exaggerating, we got to 36 hours and had to call it quits since the county and city pulled all their highway departments off the roads due to conditions. That night taught me a lot about how malicious people are on the road💀. (Also municipal workers and first responders with CDLs are exempt from hours of service regulations, so I had to keep going or I'd lose my job)
@monsterhanna66916 ай бұрын
Yeah, but the guy? in the last story had every right to be concerned about if some kids were in danger. I'll admit just seeing some random clothes on the road is definitely unusual, but what if it wasn't a trap?
@jadend69786 ай бұрын
@@monsterhanna6691 that’s why emergency professionals exist. And the clothing isn’t all that odd. But that’s as someone who lives in a rural area, where clothing falls out the back of trucks all the time. I’ve seen full arm chairs left in the middle of the highway that people just gave up on retrieving. Regardless of what you see before hand, my point still stands. Cars attempting to fully block the road are known for being a common entrapment method. If you want to risk your neck for what is likely a trap, that’s on you. But be well aware that it is likely a in situations like this.

I've been a truck driver for about 20 years now and I have a story similar to the first one but the difference between me and him is I didn't stop. I did slow down enough to see what could possibly be going on but I didn't see anyone in or around the car so I just continued on to my destination. I'm 90% sure that even if there was someone standing around or sitting in the car I still wouldn't have stopped.

I have one, once, when I was hitchhiking across the country to get to the Alamo (someone hid my bike in the basement after stealing it), I got in the truck of an elderly women named Large Marge. She started telling a ghost story about the worst accident she’d ever seen, which was unsettling enough, but then, she got to the part of the story where the body was retrieved, and she said ‘it looked like this’, then made by far the scariest face I’ve EVER seen, it looked like the mascot from those old honeycomb cereal commercials sort of, but WAY worse. Needless to say I noped out of there at the next gas station.

It's funny how many of these stories now have the word "literally" in them over & over. I can't wait until that word slows down. It's in so many sentences when it doesn't have to be.
@Tdotttttt6 ай бұрын
It got popularized more around 2017 or so, zoomers start to put emphasis on everything they say, so they overused it and now its like the word "like" so annoying. You can actually watch any vloggers, they say stuff like, I literally just woke up. I literally ate. I am just tired of it too. That and there is another annoying phrase. ngl (not gonna lie) what an annoying thing to say. Not gonna lie, I thought it was great! So when I hear this, I feel like asking, what kind of a person are you? Does that mean by default you lie over stupid stuff and now you have to say not gonna lie as if you are going out of character to make this statement lol English is my 4th language and I really learned it from scratch teaching myself when I got started watching movies with subtitles. I think these new phrases and words are just ruining the language.
@stacin8216 ай бұрын
@Tdotttttt haha yeah I grew up in the time of the word "like." I'm constantly trying to watch my usage of the dreaded "like," but it is hard! Especially if I'm comfortable speaking with someone. "12 hours drive might not seem that crazy" it does to a Brit lol. 12 hours can almost get you the entire length of the UK Also I absolutely love these stories and the pictures and sound effects that go with them. Abandoned petrol stations are always creepy, so are most abandoned places but the petrol station one is even more isolating, because you go there when you need petrol, and if it's abandoned then so are you.

As a trucker who was nearly hijacked some 6 years ago, I can say that the guy in the first story is either lucky as hell or full of it. When guys in a Sprinter van tried to run me off I-94 at 4:30 in the morning I just decided I wasn't going to play that game. When it's life or death the last thing on your mind is someone else's life or catching charges. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. Their whole van disappeared under my hood only for them to realize at the last minute that I wasn't going to stop. They nearly ran themselves off the road, flying into the shoulder at 80 mph and kicking up a cloud of dust that looked like a locust swarm. I kept going. You can't play chicken with a semi. I was just thankful that the truck I was in was older and, A) didn't have a collision management system, B) had a huge deer guard welded to the frame, and C) wasn't running any company-issued cameras.

From Mizoram state, India. A couple of years ago (mid 2000s) a Oil Tanker was returning from a trip to Burma/Myanmar. At evening the truck was stopped by a woman in the highway which was in the middle of a tropical jungle infamous for 'The Spirit of Sleeping Lady' and other apparitions that have become urban legends here. The woman asked for a lift and incidentally both were from the same town. They reached home at midnight and said their goodbyes. The next morning the woman remembered she had left her jacket in the truck and went to retrieve it. To her shock, she was told by the man's wife that he died 2 weeks back. She didn't believe it and went to check his grave. There she saw her jacket hanging upon the cross of the grave. Can't confirm if its true but read her interview in the local town newspaper.
