“Nights in White Satin” is a timeless classic by the British band The Moody Blues. Written and sung by Justin Hayward, this melancholic piece is set in E minor and features several characteristic elements of its time. Let’s delve into more details:
Release Date: The song was released in 1967 and has since become an iconic track in the world of music.
Lyrics: “Nights in White Satin” weaves a tale of love, longing, and introspection. The lyrics evoke a sense of yearning and emotional depth.
Musical Arrangement: The haunting melody, accompanied by orchestral arrangements, creates a dreamlike atmosphere. The use of the mellotron (an early keyboard instrument) adds to its unique sound.
Legacy: The song has endured over the decades, captivating listeners with its poetic lyrics and soul-stirring melody.
This is the first version of "Nights in White Satin" in colour!!.
Filmed in Paris,1967 ( restored version)
Since 2018 the Moody Blues are in the Rock´n´Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio - USA.

When my mom and dad were going through a really messy divorce my dad took me and my siblings on a trip to Lake Arrowhead. At night, in the car on our long trip this song came on the radio. I looked over and saw tears running down my dads face and I had never seen him cry. It spoke volumes and I will never forget that moment.

Today 11/19/2023 and at age 67...I hear Nights in White Satin in a cologne commercial on TV and had to read up. The Moody Blues formed in 1964...I was only 9. This song released in 1967?! Yes, I have known the song my whole life but was shocked to see the dates. When Justin wrote it, he was only 19...amazing. The song is a timeless, passionate masterpiece and I am adding the band to a long list of albums that I need to listen to. Sadly, many of the members have passed on. 😔 Don't let them be forgotten...keep the legacy alive! ❤❤❤❤❤

I had the misfortune of returning to San Francisco not too long ago . Originally excited to return to a once beautiful place only to find conditions appalling . San Francisco , like so many other formerly great places in our countries history is becoming a third world country . The feces , homelessness , trash , drug infestation etc. Hopefully the residents , most of whom are fed up can vote out the politicians whose policies destroyed that city .

I’m 28 and reading the comments while listening to this song has given me an early midlife crisis, reading how all of the elders listened to this in their teens and reminiscing. The thought of remembering being young and recognizing the end is near just has no words to explain it. coming to peace with yourself and life as a whole, just realizing that this world is not our world, that we are all just passing through. All I can say is respect, to all of you out there with this type of thing crossing your minds on a daily basis. Thank you all for just being here in this world and sharing your part of life. Godspeed

Same, 28, and I never got into “dubstep” like everyone else, but when I heard this song remixed I instantly loved it bc of the lyrics. The original song is so much better. Definitely tearing up reading some one these comments. I 1000% agree. What a time to have experienced.

I'm 70 years old now and this song still overwhelms me with emotion. I always get goosebumps and will always remember the joys of playing the album over and over and over and over..... It was one of the first exposures to orchestral music for me back then. "Band member Justin Hayward wrote and composed the song at age 19 while touring in Belgium and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward." Lyrics Nights in white satin Never reaching the end Letters I've written Never meaning to send Beauty I'd always missed With these eyes before Just what the truth is I can't say anymore 'Cause I love you Yes I love you Oh, how I love you Gazing at people Some hand in hand Just what I'm going through They can't understand Some try to tell me Thoughts they cannot defend Just what you want to be You will be in the end And I love you Yes I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you Nights in white satin Never reaching the end Letters I've written Never meaning to send Beauty I'd always missed With these eyes before Just what the truth is I can't say anymore Yes I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you Yes I love you Yes I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bed sitter people look back and lament Another days useless energy spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is gray and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Justin Hayward Nights In White Satin lyrics © Tyler Music Ltd. This song came to mind as Denny Laine, co-founder of Moody Blues passed away today. The first time my to be husband invited me over to his house we sat in a nearly empty living room and he played Knights in White Satin on his little cassette player. It's a somewhat mournful eerie but beautiful song. Music is so powerful and gives us a chance to relive an experience. I think it was the first time he put his arm on my shoulder.

About 30 years ago I had an unforgetable night with an unforgetable man by listening this unforgetable song. A night in white satin.
