What a moment in video game history. You stand on a rock miles high under a gloomy sky with no way down. Nights is not there to help you this time. The only way off the rock is to take a leap of faith, and then you plummet to your doom, only to take flight for the first time as the main characters; facing your fears and brave enough to tackle the final boss alone. Awesome game.

In the late 90s, no less. SEGA ftw! I still demand we get an animated adaptation one day! I mean, if SHENMUE can get one, then so can NiGHTS!

I love how ominous it starts with these drums then become way more hopeful.

This music completely surprised me; I thought at first I was going to die as soon as I jumped, but instead Claris came up and started to fly. She and Eliot both believed that they did not need Nights to experience flight, and this tune not only compliments it, It gives you a sense of pure optimism, and never go disappears. there is not one blemish in this incredibly uplifting song, and flying with it has brought me pure joy.

I'm pretty sure if I'd never ever played Nights, I could still here this song and get an idea of what was happening. Song tells a story. I miss intelligent soundtracks...also miss my Saturn =-'

I beat this game for the first time last night (in 2020!). It holds up. What a gem. This last level left such a strong impression. I remember playing Journey of Dreams when I was 12 and the themes about standing up to the world on your own were strong for me. Now, even as an adult, the endgame of this classic leaves a stronger impression. What a beautiful game.

As much shit as JOD gets, the last level where this plays again may actually top twin seeds IMO. While this bit gave me warm fuzzies, in JOD I legitimately got goosebumps when it happened

This was easily my favorite stage in the game, because the kids was flying and it made me lose my mind. I went back and played this game religiously on my Sega Saturn to make it to this stage for that incredible moment.

For me one of the most wonderful videogame tracks on its era (late 1990's).

Downloaded this on my xbox because I missed out first time round. Superb game, amazing soundtrack. The most surprising thing about this game is that Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario) cites this as one of his favourite games!

Profanity aside, I agree. The game industry is built on cold, hard cash at the end of the day and Yuji Naka was wrong to get in the way of his company's success just so he could make an awesome but somewhat alienating game. Thankfully, now that Sonic Team and Yuji Naka's Prope are no longer dependant on each other, Yuji Naka can make (and has made) games that don't get in SEGA or the Sonic brand's way.
@PopfulFrost5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to cut in on a 6-years-dead conversation, but I have to disagree that Naka was at fault, here. The Saturn was doomed regardless of anything Naka did to get his game made: it released before ANY games had been available for it, it had god-awful 3D hardware in a time when everyone had a massive boner for 3D, and it came just after Sega's instantly-obsoleted 32X, meaning Sega had lost that much consumer trust already. And then you combine THAT with the piss-fight between SoA and SoJ that can be summed up by Sonic X-Treme's abortive development cycle (STI was filled with amateurs, and rather than work WITH them from the beginning like they did with Sonic 2, they left them to their own devices, then canned the project and tried to make their own game before that fell through too), and it was all a recipe for both the Saturn AND the Dreamcast to both fail miserably. Simply put, Sega's incredibly retarded business decisions ruined its chances in the market, NOT Naka, and not NiGHTS.

i disagree. i think it's better for any creative industry for the creatives to work free on constraints, because that's where true innovation comes from. we saw how Sonic worked with Saturn in Xmas NiGHTS's unlockable mode and in Sonic Jam's hub world. it sucked. NiGHTS was for more innovative and well-crafted. i'm thankful this game got made. imagine if bands like The Beatles didn't write Sgt Pepper because it was too weird but rather wrote a more poppy album like their label wanted. it'd suck.
@gamingawesomeness2224 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, our capitalistic nightmare of a world is incompatible with creativity. I'm (well, *was*) a creative, and as much as I love my work I do like to eat, and sleep with a roof over my head.
@Ghostguy6932 жыл бұрын
I mean, we didn't really get a chance to see a real Sonic game on the Saturn. What you mentioned were quick bonuses, heck NiGHTS' version was just a faster version of Elliot and Claris with a different jump. We can't say how it would've done. Not to mention didn't most people LIKE the hub world of Sonic Jam from what I've seen? Agree with everything else though.
