A bit late, but a solution to you feeling its lacking dust and mud tones, is if you have some model leaves, sprinkle some of those on, take a step back and have a look, if it still looks like its lacking even with the leaves on it, then you should add some. great Video Martin, Keep up the great work

My 2c - I think it needs more heavy mud build up in the road wheels. Right now it looks like a tiger thats been driving on the road and a lot of the heavy "chunky" mud has fallen off. It looks 100% fine as is, but you were talking about adding more and thats where I'd add to make it look more like the Tiger is presently in a muddy combat zone instead of having been there in the past.

The polished metal effect on the running gear depends on the soil type the tank traversed. Clay soils polish metal like fine wet/dry sandpaper but sandy soil grinds a duller pitted surface that doesn't really shine - I've never managed to get a realistic look on my models, it will be interesting to finally see the tiger with its tracks on.

From personal experience driving tracked vehicles in combat environments, mud builds up quite a bit on the front of vehicles due to the other vehicles in front of you as you drive in a convoy. It tends to throw up large clots of earth that even land on the top of your tank. In Iraq in 2003 our tank had mud 6in thick on the front of it due to this. Not sure this would work for the Tiger but it might help.

Would the shiny metal parts be covered in light dust and mud? Surely even if the wheels were polished raw, driving through some mud would get them slightly dirty again, even with it being rubbed off again eventually?
@NightShiftScaleModels4 жыл бұрын
That's a very common thing on rubber cladded wheels, hard to tell if something similar happens on steel surfaces because they're smooth. Also it's hard to see it on historical photos, and modern tanks all have rubber wheels, so they're no help :(
@Joe125g204 жыл бұрын
@@NightShiftScaleModels Ah that's annoying. But I think for a model the shiny part breaks up the drab mud and catches the eye, so it's a fine choice. Looks great!
