you should put the mortar at one end of your display shelf and a massive crater diorama at the other end for more storytelling!

Dear Martin, the paintjob on the entire model was so acurate and in scale that the „sloppy camo job“ was even more reliable. No one ever would have doubt that this wasn’t the intention. Amazing job! Im glad you had even fun doing it.

I always prime my models with spray cans, i enjoy brush painting so it's better for me. Incase anyone was wondering, my recommendation is tamiya model primer, it's expensive and comes in a small spray can, but levels well and dries near-instantly.

If you do a diorama for the Karl will you also build the accompanying Panzer 4 that each was paired with? as each Karl would need a modified panzer 4 to keep them fully stocked on ammunition and it would be an interesting historic detail that would make the model more interesting
@NightShiftScaleModels Жыл бұрын
True, but the Schlepper was supposed to drive away when the mortar was firing. That should give me a good enough excuse to just make a small scenic base around it :D
@Evaunit98 Жыл бұрын
@@NightShiftScaleModels i was unaware they drove away but that may explain the absence of them from photos of the Karl!s firing

I have watched a ton of model building videos in the last few years since I started back doing kits and today was the first I have heard of putting gloss into the paint mix to keep later gloss varnishes from turning the color darker. Thanks so much for that.

Very nice job. I can appreciate your hesitancy to do the Afrika color. I have always been that way about snow camouflage. I think you hit just the right mix. Well done.
@Panzermeister36 Жыл бұрын
The Tropentarn colours are very interesting in their use in Russia. By 1942, vehicles in full factory-applied tropical camouflage were being deployed to the northern Russian sector...in the winter! Desert camouflage in the snow. Well, at this point it was deemed that Russia was a tropical region and these camouflages weren't actually "desert" anymore. Basically, it's always very cool to see the funky results of the Tropentarn colours used in Russia :)

Remember the guys in the field who were painting this were at the the bottom of the rank. So, they just like today's military were told to paint it and they did what they thought they wanted. I see this all the time when restoring military vehicles- reflective surfaces painted over, glass over spray, wheels and tires imperfectly painted etc.

Fastest click I ever did...6 secs after upload. I'm as fast as you with models. 2 years later I have assembled 4 models. My first was Phantom II- it sits and collects dust and the decals have peeled off in several places. It have some mistakes but it's mostly done. Second was Mercedes AMG GT3- my first fully finished model...and the last xD Later there was P-38, I glued the chassis backwards, but it is mostly painted ... without decals First tank? T-72, some crazy stuff if you ask me. I was planning to glue one of the available versions, but in the process something touched me and I started to convert it to another. Unfinished and dusty. Back in 2022 in december I started my first wooden model. Bismarck. Now I'm stuck at planking stage. That's how I started first project of the year- Challenger II...first time with airbrush. I know how it works but I need to learn how to thin paints.

When you started spraying 2nd color camo I cringed! However it looked great! As far as airbrush needles, most of us get too small a needle for the job. I have an Inest Iwata mini spray gun with a .6 needle for big spray jobs. Also have a 1.0 in case I need to paint 1/200 scale Yamato! And yes airbrushes and needles all the way down to.15. Usually at a.2 or.3
