Definitely fair and true to say that this album is better than some Radiohead albums. This isn’t just another relatively forgettable side project, this album is genuinely great, independently from its association with Radiohead. I’d say I enjoy this album more than A moon shaped pool, and probably would say it’s a little lesser than In Rainbows but that is saying something. I love both AMSP and IR, AMSP for me has quite a few skip songs though, but this smile album despite being all over the place in sound, is so packed with songs that are just fucking great songwriting. It’s like Thom and Jonny have taken all their experience and musical evolution from Radiohead and their side projects, combined it and made it a bit more accessible, and out comes this album. Somewhere between an 8 and 9 out of 10 for me.

@youmothershouldknow49052 жыл бұрын
@@paranoidandroid9410 Yeah…it’s really good. I must say that I hesitate comparing the Bends to any other Radiohead album, since I hear it as the most anthemic album-which counts for, not just something, a lot-not an album to compare to the experimental albums this subsequent albums might be. The latest album by The Smile fits within the creative, experimental wheelhouse of the Radiohead world.

Thom and Jonny are on such a beyond the ultimate musical genius scale to be just like " a couple guys in a rock band" - despite which band we are talking abut - they have officially transcended - and add this badass jazz drummer and pent up COVID song ideas and - well here ya go. I anything to me this ensures LP10 even more as this was just them being bored like what else do we have to do let's trade off guitar, bass, and synth bring in a new drum vibe and make total magic because we can. The live surprise show that surfaced first - Jonny ripping into his guitar like - I am not sure if we've ever seen anything him do anything like it - was so great and then I watched one of the 3 live shows online. This final product is as great as I'd hoped.

The drummer from sos of kemet skinner.. Is the unsung hero in the making of this album.. His jazz druming is phenomenal.. Its Almost like an octopus is playing.. Hair dryer is a real gem.. Skirting on the surface is a radiohead leftover i believe but what a leftover.. And we don't know what tomorrow brings is almost indie rock masterclass.. Apparently the album came about because when tom did a call to arms for radiohead to record during the pandemic only jonny greenwood could.. So skinner was brought in.. Brilliantly... I think its as good an album as most and im going to see them. Here in the uk in June.. Manchester... Bring it on.. Theve done a few gigs and covered its different for girls.. By joe Jackson which was sneak recorded and posted on utube.. Which i watched.. Sadly it was taken down.. But it was awesome... Bring on your reaction to the rest of the album...

Make sure you’re hearing the time meter right. The keyboard strikes are on the offbeat, that’s why the bass drum pulse is there to guide the way. Recommend starting the song :30 seconds in to catch it. A lot like the meter in Videotape. Keyboard strikes are on the & of the 1&2&3&4&.

Great album and a great reaction video! You just earned a like and subscribe from me! You need to check out (at least one of) their live performance(s) from Magazine in the UK from late January. They performed all of these songs live, plus two others (a Joe Jackson cover, "It's Different for Girls" and one of my personal favorite originals, "Just Eyes and Mouth". I can't BELIEVE it didn't make the cut!) that didn't make the album. I was lucky enough to see the performance (Show 2) live-streamed in a movie theater, and boy oh boy, was it a special experience! The vocals will fall into place when you get the meter. I totally agree - I think shedding the weight of the Radiohead moniker let them loosen up and get wild on this one. Honestly, it’s exactly the direction I was hoping they’d do after Kid A/Amnesiac.
