That holds no surprise for me. Its up to the player to do what works for them. I work as a session player and trust me there is more than one way to approach a song and when you approach it from an alternative angle then you tend to create your own stuff as a consequence. By the way never trust a video clip to let you know how a song is played. Trust your ears only.

I believe you are right about this. I worked all of once out in D-standard. sleeping sun is a drop D I believe and may be the exception to the rule but I could be wrong. I have a lot of guitars and use drop D, D standard, E standard, open E minor among others. I find it easy to play some Nightwish stuff in drop D but D standard is fine also. However Songs like amaranth appear to work best in a drop D as far as tone is concerned. In the end it is up to the player.

Actually Nightwish has never played with dropped tunings I think. First 3 albums with E-standard, 3 newest with D-standard. :) But thanks anyway!
