Such a heartbreaking song especially when you know what happens after this concert...

'Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan' means 'Death Makes an Artist'. Only once I got to see my dream I didn't feel the smallness under the stars Once I got bars to my cradle From there I'm writing a letter as a prisoner My God, to you let me (be)come what my child takes me for In you, the beauty of the world From which the death made me an artist My God, to you let me (be)come what my child takes me for My God, to you let me (be)come what my child takes me for Created my own heaven here Let me get away Created my own heaven here Let me get away note: I took this from a website, not my translation. "Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee" / "My God, to you let me (be)come what my child takes me for" don't know about that but i'm not sure what would be the correct way to translate. The reason why it's difficult to translate is because it's written in a slightly weird way in Finnish. From their book: --------- Tuomas: "I decided to make it a ballad with an orchestra, but without drums or guitars. I had doubts about it until the very end, and just in case, I had also written the lyrics in English. But in the end, it did add an exotic touch to the album, and it's a sort of a tribute to our Finnish fans who have been with us from the start. It's also a beautiful song, with the cello solo that I still think is highlight of the whole album. You can practically feel the weight of past centuries. The solo was played with a genuine 17th century baroque Stradivarius, and I've heard that the instrument is worth at least two million pounds". Tarja later revealed that the song has a special meaning for her. "It's been wonderful to see how people all around the world quiet down to listen to it and light up their lighters. And even though there's nothing special happening on-stage - there's just me, singing alone - the song always manages to create this incredibly beautiful atmosphere. I get to sing in Finnish, and as we're like musical ambassadors of Finland in a way, I think the song is very important. I've done classical concerts abroad, and after singing something in Finnish, people have often told me that they think our language is very beautiful. So it's very important to me, and I think it's good to keep in mind where we come from."

She's not wrong. Beautiful language sung beautifully and quite right to do so. Marko's Finnish song on _Imaginaerum_ is lovely too - I'm sorry Tuomas has difficulty writing Finnish lyrics, because I think we should have more!

My heart really broke for Tarja, I had found the band and listened the album all the time... then they just tell her it's over??? I could not believe it. I was so mad I boycotted them since and actually only recently have found the band again. I love Floor and she and the band are just incredible. But Tarja was there from the beginning and helped to create this unique sound, there was no other band like that. Tarja's 'Flying in the air' is the best version ever made of that song and when the album came to that I always listened it twice before moving on to the next song, it gives me goosepumps.

Gorgeous. Another gorgeous moment she had in her solo concert in Argentina in 2012, when she performed Oasis. She composed the song, starts singing in Finnish, then the rest of the song, in English. She is alone on the stage, playing a piano. Beautiful moment. Please do react to that one. The song is very different there from the album version, but both are absolutely beautiful.

As "Once" album heralded the end of Tarja's career (I'm sure they knew it already when composing the album), one could even see this song as a goodbye: become an artist yourself, after your era ends in Nightwish. Using your native language sure helps to bring out your emotions, the nuances. They just connect more and come out easier.

Thank you friends for doing this... I lost my father in January to cancer and we played this song at his funeral. Rest in peace my dear father... 💔😭😭

This is one of those songs that transends words. You need not understand the language to understand the emotion that Tarja conveys
@Aurinkohirvi Жыл бұрын
Exactly. The lyrics are so cryptic, the meaning is unclear for us native Finnish speakers as well. It is melancholic and pleading, that's all what I get from it. It may even be, that it was written as a "bon voyage" for Tarja, telling her to become an artist of her own, after her end in Nightwish. (Or death of Nightwish, what Tuomas claims he feared it will be).

Such a gorgeous song. Thank you❤ I really like hearing Tarja sing in Finnish. She has 2 songs.... well kinda 3 songs, in her solo career where she sings in Finnish. Oasis is from her first album. Such a beautiful ballad. Then there is Loputon yö, from her latest album. Also very beautiful song. The third one is called Mystique Voyage. There she sings in English, Spanish and in Finnish. Definitely a song worth of checking out😊

When she sings those medles with just piano, that's my fav part. But Oasis' album version is also I think, her most beautiful song.

What a treat to get so many Tarja songs. I love Floor, but she has so many. But thank you. I’ve only known about this band for a year, and I’m just in love with it

Overall I prefer Floor. But, this is absolutely beautiful. In the year I have known Nightwish, this is, to me, Tarja supreme. Plus, of course, Tuomas talent. A completely different composition , not at all ‘metal band’. Thank you for selecting this number for your reaction.

Tuomas goes wherever his muse takes him. It's no surprise that he leaves the head bang crowd behind. He is a compositional genius, and he produces exquisite and often heartbreakingly beautiful music. There's a line from Dead Boys Poem that goes, "Every thought, the music I write, everything a wish for the night." There's the key to Nightwish.

Check the lyrics....some tough soldiers say that they tear when listening to this and specially understand the message/lyrics....Once = Kerran ! In all songs there is that word in vital role on the Once album. Genius Tuomas. Check also Lowlands concert version.
@Aurinkohirvi Жыл бұрын
Once/Kerran is said in all the songs? Well that's new to me. Yeah, it's sad how reactionists always pick the most watched song. For a song that is about Tarja's singing, go to another contert than End of an Era.
