Hey, thanks André, and thanks for the feedback! After some bad experiences completely ruining mixes because of too much bass, I'm progressively adding them back, under control. But it's quite hard and depending on what you are listening, on some speakers I feel there's already too much bass. As for the guitars, I tried to mimic the original song's ones where guitar are really forward in the mix. But eh, I'm not Nightwish's mixing engineer unfortunately :D

I feel you man! When I do my mixes I also struggling with the bass... always! xD I try different settings and do the same thing you described (adding back the bass slightly) but in the end I come back to the point where I started xD. I think it's often a matter of overworking and the ears get used to the sound without the bass and when you add/record the bass later on it seems that the bass is disturbing. I often let the mix rest for one day and when I listen to it again I realize whether I have to add more or less bass. Of course the EQ settings are a decisive criterion and the ratio of the instruments to each other. Hehe, no you are not Nightwish's mixing engineer (not yet... you never know ;) ), it's just constructive criticism and your overall mix is great! :D Btw... nice Shirt! ;)

Thank you Boris! The bass is here, you should here it at 2:02 for example. Maybe it's not loud enough depending on what you are listening, but having tight bass with the right level that doesn't blow up the whole mix on bass-heavy speakers or headsets definitely is what I find the most challenging in mixing so far.

Feedback is always very welcome :) I acknowledge that the original mix is really bass heavy, so I can understand bass feels lacking when comparing. But Nightwish's songs mixing style is quite special and really hard to reproduce without just ruining everything haha. There's magic in their music :D Again, thank you!

Awesome job!! I have been thinking about making vocal covers on youtube, but I have no idea where to get backing tracks legally. I don't know anything about music technology and therefore have no skills to make them myself. It's been very frustrating and I almost gave up already. May I ask where do you get your backing tracks? Do you collaborate with others all the time or do you for example pay someone to make them for you?

Hi Susanna, just saw your comment. I made the entire backing track on this one. I'd recommend you to find collaborators as Alina and other singers on youtube do. Not only it will free you from copyright issues but it will also give you visibility on youtube :) You can also learn how to do it by yourself, I didn't know anything either until I started doing it. There are lots and lots of tutorials, videos etc all over the internet about how to mix music :)

One of the things I don't like about nightwish covers is the diva faces that make the main singer, trying to look ethereal, overacting how they feel the song. I can't stand it. But you Alina, this is different. You show yourself as you are, a woman with a friend having fun, living the song with no pretentions, enjoying it. Your face show it.
