They fellow singing is Troy Donockley (he's English), the sixth member of Nightwish. He is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Floor is Dutch and is fluent in Dutch, English, Swedish, German and speaks some Finnish as well. Keep in mind this concert was just a few weeks after Floor had gall bladder surgery.

This version was part of concert they posted online during the height of the pandemic as a gift to the fans because touring had been suspended. You mentioned a celtic vibe. I agree The background vocalist on this song was their multi-instrumentalist Troy, who is from Ireland. If you want to try another song with that vibe I recommend "I Want My Tears Back" specifically the live version from Buenos Aires.

If a Nightwish song is part of the 2013 Wacken concert, that is the version to react to. That was the first major concert with Floor as lead singer. That concert was near perfect. The song you reacted was a virtual concert done during the Covid lockdown, shortly after Marko had left the band. Troy or Floor were singing the parts handled by Marko. He was a great loss to Nightwish. This virtual, while great for us fans that were thirsty for Nightwish during lockdown, does not compare to their real live concerts.

This was a virtual concert during lockdown. There are 2 versions of phantom filmed like 18 years apart. The first is with the original singer who was basically an opera singer the second is Floor who can sing anything!

I concur. Both versions are epic in their own way. Floor and Tarja are both great singers as are Marko and Henk Poort (he was a guest singer). Marko plays a completely mental version of the Phantom whereas Henk is more closer to a standard musical theater singer (because he is), although he adds some grit to his voice in this song. (As a total aside: Floor and Henk are on #99 in the Dutch top2000 for this year, with their Phantom of the Opera, you can hear them dec 31 on about 13:15 if you tune in to the dutch radio 2). Tarja and Floor often have different interpretations of the same song. In general both are interesting. (Though, being Dutch myself, I mostly prefer Floor.)

About the Floor/Amy Lee comparison: I don't think anyone was really upset about it. It has just become kind of a standard joke among the Nightwish fan base. Because we hear that from almost every fellow American who sees NW for the first time but never hear it from European reactors. We know it is because of precisely what you said: We Americans have, by and large, never been exposed to this type of genre. And so the nearest thing in our cognitive universe of experience is naturally Evanescence. No dislike... just we find a little bit of humor in it, like, "Oh-oh here we go again with the Amy Lee thing!" :D

The “guest singer” is actually Troy, the sixth member of the band…you’ll see/hear more from him the more you venture out from Wacken 2013. He is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. This was from a live performance they did during the pandemic. Floor is from the Netherlands, and prior to reVamp she was in a band called After Forever for several years.

FYI, this performance features the current band members. There have been two changes since Wacken 2013. Due to chronic insomnia, the drummer Jukka handed over the sticks to his good friend and drum teacher, Kai, who you see here. The bassist you saw at Wacken was Marko. He sang backup on a lot of songs (and lead on a few), but not on Ghost Love Score. He left the band for health reasons in the spring of 2021. Right before this virtual concert, it was announced that Jukka (different person) would be playing bass for the concert and for the upcoming world tour. Later, it was announced that Jukka was joining the band permanently, putting to rest the hopes of the fans that Marko would return. Troy (who you see singing here), also sings backup (and a little lead). Since Marko's departure, he has had to step up and do more singing. He is a good singer, but not on Marko's level. This song was originally recorded with Annette (2nd female singer) and Marko. It was released on their 7th album, Imaginaerum, in 2011. It was performed during the subsequent world tour, of which Wacken 2013 was a part (it is the last song of that show). It has been on many Nightwish set lists since. Floor can sing anything well, and her performances of this song are always great. But Marko's vocals were a big part of this song from the beginning, and even though Troy does a good job, Marko's absence here is definitely felt.

There are two versions of Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish One in 2005 with the first very operatic singer Tarja and the bassist Marko. The more recent version in 2023 features Floor and a guest singer Henk Poort who actually performed in the Dutch version of Phantom for years and was highly rated by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Enjoyed your reaction. This concert was a virtual concert in the middle of the pandemic. I really enjoyed it, especially since it had been so long since we had any live music. The vibe was a little weird with no audience. If only for yourself you should checkout a live version of this song from Wacken or the Master's of Rock. On earlier shows this song was the show closer. A very uplifting, inspiring and happy song to have running in your head as you leave the show. It has one of my favorite lyrics, "It is hard to light a candle, easier to curse the dark instead". I saw them live in 2022 in Boston and this song, followed by Ghost Love Score, The Greatest Show on Earth, and then the Ad Astra movement from All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World during the outro as he band took their bows, was an incredible end to the show. Never left a show so inspired about the beauty of humanity and a desire to live my best life. Be forewarned that there are multiple versions of Phantom of the Opera. Nightwish's first singer, Tarja Turunen, was classically trained and sang in a mostly operatic style. They recorded a version of Phantom on their Century Child album from 2002 and it was a staple of their setlist during the time Tarja was in the band. The live version from the End of an Era concert is outstanding and Marko Hietala (then bassist) gives the grittiest, creepiest Phantom performance ever. IMO Marko steals the show. Of interest, the band fired Taraja via an open letter (on the internet if you want to read it) right after that concert. Next is Floor performing the Phantom with Henk Poort on the Dutch singing show Beste Zangers in 2019. It is not with Nightwish but they use a slightly less heavy version of the Nightwish arrangement so IMO it still counts as Nightwish. Henk Poort is a famous Dutch musical theater star who was the first actor to play the Phantom in the Dutch production of the play. It is by far my favorite version since Floor is using a more musical theater vocal set up and her artistry is on full display with all her runs and shifts in vocal style. Last version is with Nightwish, Floor, and Henk in Amsterdam in 2022. Floor was a big fan of Henks, having seen him perform as the Phantom as a teenager. She agreed to do the Beste Zangers show in part so she could meet him. The last show features duets and she asked Henk to perform Phantom with her. He agreed with a promise that the next time Nightwish was in Amsterdam he would perform it with the band. It took 3 years to make it happen due to Covid but they finally fulfilled everyone's wish. They kept it as surprise from the audience who were hoping it would happen and 17 years since they had last played it live, they delivered. My personal preference is the Beste Zangers performance followed by Tarja and Marko (End of an Era concert) followed by Floor, Henk, Nightwish at the 2022 Ziggo Dome Amsterdam concert. They are all great but that is my personal ranking. You should also checkout Floor's solo performance of Lady Gaga's Shallow on Beste Zangers. Mind blowingly good, an unexpected arrangement, and Floor's emotional storytelling on full display.

I had tickets for these virtual concerts so I will accept them as live, even though having no audience is like a Chinese meal without MSG. The Wacken live version is the gold standard, because after a flawless performance of the whole concert, a beaming Floor folds her hands in realizing she had made a breakthrough into the elite of metal singers, basically securing her future. These virtual concerts were planned to support all the Nightwish staff who had no income during the pandemic. Better CGI -> more expense -> less money for the staff.

We know that she is the only reference many people have of a female fronted metal band with a singer who has a great voice 😉 They created this virtual environment so that they could keep doing concerts even during covid times. This is a great song but when they perform it live it is usually the last song at a concert and the fans joining in makes it even better. If you check it out (for your personal enjoyment) they were setting off fireworks at the Wacken 2013 show and it looks like they nearly set the stage on fire 😂 I have seen Nick Nocturnal & Elizabeth (from The Charasmatic Voice). I think the song was called "Red Panda" and Elizabeth looked so cute in her onesie 😅. We love Elizabeth because she loves Nightwish & Floor. We helped turn her into a metal head! Her Ghost Love Score reaction has about 3.1M views so far I believe Be careful when you choose which "Phantom Of The Opera" video you react to because there is a version which features Floor (Amsterdam) and a version which features their first singer Tarja (End Of An Era concert 2004). Tarja was the first singer she has this amazing Opera vocals Tarja was a school friend to the keyboard player and founding member Tuomas. Tarja also learned piano from Tuomas's mother as a kid so there friendship was great. Over time Tarja got married to manager Marcelo which the band claimed drove a wedge between them. Sadly the band had to let her go. Tuomas was so upset he fell into a deep depression and was suicidel. He wrote the song The poet and the pendulum which he kills himself in the song rather then in life. Anette their second vocalist was a fun more Pop ish singer but during pregnancy became very unwell during the American tour. Tuomas had to find a a tempory replacement. So some female members of the band Kamalot stepped in. They then gave Floor a call. Floor had finished recovering from over working burnout from her projects and her band Revamp. She was at her sister's Irene Jansen's wedding when the call came through. Floor later became there lead vocalist as Anette was still to unwell to return.

IIRC Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja wanted to start a folk like band, then Tuomas dicovered Metallica. Tarja turned out the be not only a very good singer but one that was developing into an opera singer. The end result was a symphonic metal band with folk influences and operatic singing lines. Great music, but too different for a US audience. )Or perhaps more correctly for the US recordcompanies and radiostations paired with the standard not invented here syndrom). The symphonic element was enhanced by working together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the studio albums and the backing tracks during live concerts. For the folk elements they worked together with Troy Donockley as a session musician, who became a full member in 2013 together with Floor. Floor was original just a replacement for Anette to finish their tour (see the documentary "PLease Learn the Setlist in 48 hours"). When Marko left Troy became the main second singer in the band. Seek out some songs with Marko as lead. Gabriels list (in your GLS reaction) is a good source for info on which songs to pick.

Try ‘Shudder before the beautiful’ from Wembley UK 2015 the opener from a great concert but tbh any live Nightwish will be good. PS don’t be too concerned about the comments. Most of the Nightwish army are lovely but like any community there are some black sheep. You can only compare to bands that you know!. There is a lot of history to discover. Among the fans, we often speak of the three eras of Nightwish, marked by the singers...so you are correct that changing the singer is huge for the band. The keyboardist, Tuomas, is the leader of the band. In most cases, the lead singer or one of the lead guitarists is the lead. There are always exceptions to the rule. Tarja, the first singer, sang on most of the albums. Annette, the second singer, sang on what many consider to be the best Nightwish albums, "Dark Passion Play" and "Imaginarum." I think most fans consider Floor to be the most talented and versatile singer. She makes every song better. Enjoy the trip.

You already know that this was a virtual performance. I prefer the live audience performances because there is more energy. As for Tuomas looking up from his keyboard, he started playing piano when he was seven and has mentioned in interviews that he sometimes will play a whole song without looking at the keys. He even said he did half a concert like that. He is an amazing musician and composer. 😊🤘

Since you're enjoying symphonic metal, you should listen to another amazing band, Epica. They are a combination of symphonic metal with some deathcore vocals and soaring female vocals. I would start with the song Consign to Oblivion Live at the Zenith. They also happen to be friends with Floor who has done guest spots with them. Their sound is "Epic". I would suggest a great Canadian band, Unleash the Archers, a pure power metal band from Vancouver. They have a similar vocal combination of a brilliant female singer and a great growler with insane musicianship. For a true taste of Kai Hahto's drumming skills, you need to hear Wintersun, Sons of Winter and Stars.

After they needed to postpone their Human:Nature Tour from Spring 2020 to Fall 2020 and again to Spring 2021 and again, for you know why, they decided to play two extra live concerts in May 2021 for different time-zones from a virtual venue called "The Islander's Inn". It is said that more of 150k streamers with an unknown number of eye pairs joined that chargeable event. Not a friend of virtual concerts, as suggested as the "new normal", I bought my ticket kind of last minute. It was the best you ccould get during the plandemic.

The male singer is Troy - he has a pleasant voice but it's not his main talent in the band - I'll leave it vague like that so that you enjoy the surprise when it comes in future songs. Sadly the previous base player (who had an amazing voice) left shortly before this virtual concert was constructed during the pandemic. That former base player (Marko) is another vocal surprise awaiting you - perhaps try Ever Dream at Wacken 2013 to find out..? I think this new base player may have some vocal ability but no-one knows yet whether he'll feature on the 2024 album in a vocal capacity.

You really owe it to yourselves to check out the original singer Tarja, she is incredible as well, Floor is better, but Tarja can easily compare! I suggest maybe phantom of opera with Tarja or Slaying the Dreamer. The middle singer in my opinion was a good vocalist but not in the same league as either Floor or Tarja. If you want to compare the two simply listen to Phantom of Opera with each vocalist!
