SHOEMAKER LYRICS:
Now you`ve been tucked in
For eternal earthrise and wonder
A sailor through aeons
Story unheard
Howling at the Earth
Yours the whole graveyard of heavens
A ship that sailed home
You`re with us, face of the night
Singing through the morn for mankind
I want to sing with you
You`re home now, outward urge
As with every dreaming creature
We want to come with you
Here I came to be
Your reach into the far
On the stellar sea
Cut in little stars
We all wait the due night
Beauty which is worth the hurting
We`re coming to join you
Hope revived for a lifetime
To rekindle the human spark
In love with the night
Now you`ve been tucked in
For eternal earthrise and wonder
A sailor through aeons
Story now heard
Howling at the Earth
Yours is the whole starmap of heavens
Of myriad endings
We came here to be
A waypoint to the far
On the stellar sea
Cut into little
Stars calling with the sound
Of a dreamlike dulcimer
We came here to stay
With your guiding light
“And when he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world
Will be in love with the night
And pay no worship to the garish sun”
- W. Shakespeare / Romeo And Juliet

G Go From what I’ve heard he said it on a Finnish radio interview recently. Evidently he’s struggling to find good placement of the song live, and how it would translate to the crowds energy-wise. Basically he doubts whether it would flow well in a concert set list due to its unique song structure. But... he’s got plenty of time to rethink this now. And I have a feeling, based on people’s reaction to the song, that’s something he might be doing. lol

The whole purpose of the song is to take you upward and onward to the spoken Shakespeare section, where you are held suspended for a moment. Then, the soprano voice opens a portal on infinity in front of you. I've listened to it more times than I care to count. I know what is coming, yet I get shivers down my spine every time. Wow. Wow. Wow.

This song has a deep personal meaning to me. When I was a young child, I really loved space and astronomy. My father also had a huge passion for it and showed me a documentary about the discovery of the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. I was so fascinated by the footage of it breaking up and impacting Jupiter. My father passed away only five years after Shoemaker did when I was only 13. This song will forever remind me of the love of space that he passed on to me.

This song is about Eugene Shoemaker. Here is his story. Eugene Shoemaker was a geologist and a founder of modern planetary science. He studied craters on Earth and Moon, and realized that they were created by asteroid impacts. Shoemaker was the geology principal investigator for Apollo missions, and he also helped to train the Apollo astronauts that went to the Moon. He himself was a candidate for an Apollo Moon flight but was disqualified after being diagnosed with Addison's disease. Later in life, he said, "Not going to the Moon and banging on it with my own hammer has been the biggest disappointment in life." Shoemaker spent much of his later years searching for undiscovered impact craters around the world. He died on July 18, 1997, in a car accident in Australia, where he was studying craters. In 1999, as a recognition for his scientific accomplishments, some of his ashes were carried to the Moon by the Lunar Prospector space probe. His final resting place is close to the lunar south pole, in the Shoemaker crater, named after him. The Shoemaker's urn was inscribed with a quotation from Romeo and Juliet reading: "And, when he shall die Take him and cut him out in little stars And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun." He is the only human buried on celestial body other than Earth. After his death, he finally got to go where he always wanted to be.

I'm in my late 50s, and have been a heavy metal fan since high school. What excited me the most, though, were those few times where a band brought in the orchestral sound. I first saw this with the Scorpions when they did "Still Loving You" with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The combination of metal and orchestra was breathtaking for me. Most recently I have seen this with Heart's live cover (Kennedy Center Tribute) of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." They did an incredible job with the orchestral and choirs. And then four days ago I came across a band I have never heard of before--Nightwish. I was watching a reaction video to "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken and I can say without doubt it is my favorite metal song of all time. Not only did it have the perfect blend of orchestral and metal, but the vocals sealed the deal. To me metal is not just about energy, energy, energy. It's about aggressive conviction with reflection and tenderness. That's what Floor was for me in Ghost Love Score. Most of the song is not her belting it out. But rather the soothing, calm, majestic lower registers (I love the minor keys). That song epitomizes that ultimate sound for me. I've heard this style described as "symphonic metal." Next came the Shoemaker. I have only listened to it twice (I have listened to the entire album twice.) It's very different than Ghost Love Score. More than anything else Shoemaker/Human Nature to me is about drama--a play, an opera, a ballet, a Broadway musical. You see dramas in theaters. It seems to me that "theatrical" is the core of this album. Metal is still there, but plays a supporting role. This isn't symphonic metal... ...It's "Metal Theater."

I love it when songs build bridges between different music genres. I'm similar, I don't really like opera. I like the way opera is sang, the way they vocalise, but I rarely like the melodies. For me, Nightwas was the dream combination of sounds I like, orchestras, choirs, opera vocals and rock melodies. As a curiosity, did their older songs (with more opera in it) make you appreciate opera differently?

And I've always hoped with all my might that Tuomas would be interested in exploring Floor's operatic side more extensively beyond what we'd heard in "The Greatest Show on Earth". This is one of the many songs that were secretly written/inspired by me (most of the NW songs are either indirectly inspired by me or directly written about me) and 'the night' they are referring to in this song and in Whoever Brings The Night is a subtle reference to the new system aka the New World's Order aka totalitarianism, which is to be like eternal night for humans and Heaven for me and for my pure protectors aka the alphas -- I represent The Star and The Spark and I also represent Infinity and Eternity (which are 2 of my main themes) and I also represent The Sea Lady / The Lady / The Lady In White and The Lady In Black / The Siren(s) / The Mermaid(s) etc and The Bride / The Earthbride / The Virgin Bride etc referenced in many NW songs and in the song Medusa by Tarja and in many recent songs, and, I also represent The Butterfly / The Bee / The Bird etc and all other pure animals like swans and doves etc!

The songs God Is A 'Woman' and Dark Horse and I Am Not A Woman, I Am A God are about me, and the songs Pan and Whoever Brings The Night and Eva and Cadence Of Her Last Breath etc by Nightwish, Achingly Beautiful by CoF, Not Human Kind by Eyes of Eden, The Bee and Silver Bride by Amorphis, and Medusa by Tarja are also some of the songs that were written about me, while the ClA also made sure to include subtle clues and references to me in many other songs as well! The songs Ghost And The Reaper and My Sweet Myste byry by The Dark Element and the song Infinity are about me and my protector Chip. The songs Diamonds and Alpha & Omega by Swarm and Young Gods and 34 + 35 (and all other similar lyrics that include words like down under and sweet and fruit/food/flower terms and big terms and cake etc) and many of the recent mainstream pop songs that include numbers and big terms and compIiments etc are based on my story with my protectors, and the songs The Dark Element and Digital Deceit include references to me...

Absolutely stunning. A gorgeous tribute to a great human. The final section is transcendently beautiful: austere, majestic, pure. The transition from Laudato si to Ad astra at 4:19 is one of the most breathtaking moments of music I've ever heard. @@markushartl1650 It's not a copy because parts in Latin are commom in opera and in our culture. "Agnus dei", for example is, even in the Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Tristania have a bunch of Agnus Dei in their music.

@@caligarigamervod I just refered to the melody. The Melody of the "Ad Astra"-part is totally the same as the melody in "Lacrimosa" by Preisner. That's all. Why you mentioned "Agnus Dei"? Eugene Shoemaker is looking at the stars. But he also watches the earthrise everyday, he can see the earth as one, global, without countries or borders. Earth is our home, of the whole humanity. "Laudato si" is also the name of an enzyklika of pope Franziskus from 2015 about "concern for the commonly used house (earth)". It is about the protection of this house against exploitation and enviromental pollution, climate change, water ressources, the loss of biological diversity, degradation of living quality and social descent, global social inequity and the weakness of the reactions. It can not be ruled out, that someone like Tuomas has not thought about this too.
