The difference between this demo version and PHM studio version is mindblowing. I love both ;D

"Kinda I Want To" is my all-time fav NIN song! ...Btw, for arguments sake, I grew with NIN from the inception of their career, and lemme tell ya - their prime was around 1994-1996. That is when they hit appeal to a greater mainstream audience and nearly EVERYONE had a NIN shirt (or sweater, toque, sticker, etc.). Spiral era is when they had the most sold out shows too.

poster description is right...these are really different from the songs found on PHM...but this is pretty sweet!

listening to those early Nine Inch nails demos, I can understand why when they signed them, they thought they had the new Depeche Mode...the demos sound very depeche-ish

I think the important thing to remember is that not every album a musician releases has to have the same impact. It seems like for many years he tried to force himself to write from the same place and come With Teeth sessions, he finally just let go and let himself just make music for music's sake and not try to be the mopey guy anymore.

@dubified89 him personally I would say The Fragile was one of his darkest times. He wanted to commit suicide and wrote the song La Mer and Into the Void about killing himself and if you truly listen to that album you can hear the disspair

imagine not having the musical magician Trent himself? I feel like since Trent reznor is such a smart guy we could learn a lot from him. I'm so glad he has not offed himself and made more albums after The Fragile. I know this was like eight years ago so I'm sorry if you didn't read this.

This version indeed sounds a bit faint next to the KIWT version on The Purest Feeling III album.

@Bobnumerotres Agreed fragile was peak, albeit preceding a sharp fall-off, that is to say spiral was on par with fragile but teeth was not even close.

You're kidding right starfuckers? The whole left side kicks ass.

although it is good, it's still too "80's" for NIN AND YES, i know this is 1988, but the final version that made it to the album is waaaaay more kickass

Ehhhhh? Presumably, whatever album you like best is his "peak" right? Kind of a stupid thing to debate when you're dealing with someone who's still recording, and as we can tell from these demos, basically changes genres from album to album.

I have a Red Robin demos disc that features a version of KIWT similar to this one, but the one I have sounds more 80s synth-pop & the vocals are better. This version is a bit faint.

He peaked at Downward Spiral. True to that album name, his work after, for the most part, has been just that.

When it takes like 8 years to put out a proper, then every release should be platinum. You can't count him as peaking the entire time he was sitting on his ass putting out nothing but rumors and dropping the bare minumum of what's expected from him or less. Fragile was good, but it wasn't worth all that hype and wasted time.
