This is perfect for my 91 y/o grandfather who can't bend over easily to put on his shoes. Please make one in all black so that people who have difficulty (physically) doing simple tasks like that, could have an everyday shoe!

Good luck buying a pair Corie, Nike notoriously only manufactures 12 pairs of popular new shoes. So you'll never get a pair unless you go on stockx and pay $800.

I love this concept for my sister who had a stroke and has limited mobility with her right arm. I love Nike and this shoe is innovative but I really struggle with this video and articles I've seen. The accessibly message gets lost. Especially when you show young fit people cartwheeling into the shoes. What could have been an amazing message of accessibility comes off as ableist in the video. Was anyone with a physical disability directly part of creating your messaging? Did you show this video to a diverse focus group? Something more than a pregnant woman or people juggling packages and kids?

@@furTron actually Nike has been thinking about individuals with disabilities for a little over 8 years now. A young man with cerebral palsy wrote out to Nike to ask them if they could design a shoe for people with disabilities like himself. His name was Matthew Walter if you would like to look into yourself, he actually had a little role to play in the color design and structure (not the mechanism itself).

Very cool. Would love to pick up a pair when the general release happens. My concerns: durability of the portion of the outsole that creases when the shoe is bent. How many times can it be folded before the material starts to split or breaks? How long before the tension band starts to permanently stretch? Great idea though. Looking forward to trying them on.
@emma70707
@emma70707 3 жыл бұрын
I'm certain they considered this given the footage of a robot bending it back and forth. I expect they calculated the number of times in a year or two someone might put in the shoe and have picked material that exceeded that.
@joelintl2226
@joelintl2226 2 жыл бұрын
well every conventional shoe has a flex point (usually at the widest part of your foot), that folds with every step, so in a way this area has to endure much more stress. And since this doesn't pose a problem really I wouldn't expect it to be a problem with this particular Nike shoe either.

Nifty idea but I have questions. How good is the tread for slippery surfaces? What kind of lifespan does the tread have? With that bend in the middle, how good is the arch support? Will there be a way to adjust the fit for high arches or wider feet? How much slippage is there with that piece in the back, enough to cause blisters during longer walks? Is the toe box wide enough to allow for a firm use of the toes for grip and stability?

Lots of talk about disabled people that could benefit from a shoe like this, I am one of those disabled people that have been waiting awhile for this shoe to come out. Yet each day closer to launch date the date gets pushed back. The latest date showed it being available for Nike Members on 4-30-2021 yet the last time I checked in on these shoes they completely disappeared from the list of upcoming shoes. When I contacted Nike they said I had to download their "Snkrs app" and show lots of activity on the app to get invited to buy this shoe!!! I could not believe it even disabled and on a fixed income they expect me jump through hoops physically and financially to get invited to buy this shoe!!! All I can say is Nike does not care about the disabled they just care about the bottom line and their image. The last thing they want are a bunch of cripples like me tarnishing their image. I want to get pissed and take my business somewhere else yet I still like their products and ended up buying the Nike air max 90 flyease in white after I nearly maxed out my credit card buying shoes on the Snkrs app that I plan on returning just for the chance to buy the shoe I need. Yet sadly none of the shoes that I have purchased and have yet to receive will likely fit me since I have a wide foot so I will probably end up returning them all just after I print a full color picture of me flipping them the middle finger in each box of shoes I return. Fuck Nike!!!!

Looks like they're going to cost about $120 a pair. How long before that hinge starts to wear out and split? What happens when the rubber band around the sole breaks? Definitely not good for wet weather. When someone is standing in the shoe, the top of the hinge would be an inch high at most where there's a gap that would let water flow right in.

Can't do thick-soled shoes anymore. They feel like Japanese 'geta', the wooden sandals. New Balance Minimus are the way to go, and last years upon years of heavy use.

playing devils advocate here; now that the sides have secured straps, the shoe now has a "loop" on each side that could get caught/hooked on objects. probably one in a million chance but the Murphy's Law is right there. shoe laces can be tucked in and you can untie them. i would do more testing to rule out any faults bc this is the first shoe of this type. you should think about designing an internal elastic band(s) instead of external rubberband. so it can be "stretched open" instead of staying open or closed; maintains tension to keep it "closed" so it can securely stay attached.

I came up with an idea like this in middle school that was early 2000. What's really mind-blowing is how do you even pitch or get Nike to even look at an idea? How do you even find the materials or the someone who can craft a shoe to even show them?
