I've tried them on and I have to say, you're spot on with the complaints. I would only add: I have no clue why I feel like I'm sitting so high off the ground in these and yet get nothing for it ... Such a waste ...

I play in these. I agree mostly with Zach's review. However, the issue with the "toe jam" I think can be fixed with a better heal lock down in the laces, not necessarily padding in the toe. There is basically no heal lock in the lacing. I basically resolve this by kicking my heal in all the way to the back then cinching the laces down tight which help. This also impacts the north to south movement. Side to side these are great, but for vertical movement the Vapor Pro 2 are much better. I actually like the higher ride, similar to the Zoom Vapor 11. Even though they are on the heavier side, I don't tend to feel like I'm lugging around a heavier shoe in these. For overall comfort for performance, these are the most comfortable pair I have for long days on the court.

I actually prefer the lower heel tab on the GP Challenge 1. I found the one on my beloved GP Turbos to be too tall and irritated my Achilles, even with tall tennis socks. I agree with everything else though, great points for improvement Dr. Zach!

zoom-stroble! yes the pro's heel outrigger is better/lighter as its foam, its jaring the takedown model has better geometry :P

Thanks for the comparison and suggestions. Now it makes sense why the zoom on the tennis shoes feel so non-existent/deflated as compared to those of even budget bb shoes.

Can not agree more . The ankle collar really need to go up to get better lock down. Also , the out sole can change to harder rubber I think . Just not very smooth for sliding. I think minor update to original turbo is better than this . Update the outsole and lateral part of the shoes , then turbo gonna be perfect.

GP turbo was the best.. I did toe jam later because those pack down later in life and it's hard to tighten them.. the new ones NYC open ones are ok but they came bigger at size 10M which I already hate.. I don't know if this is because it's the newest version or QC issue but it sucks because I already always .5 size up. I wish they had the GP Turbos, luckily I was able to get two pairs before challenges.. of course I just got GP challenge 1 PRM's and they dumped the price almost -$50.

im so bummed that gp turbos phased out - i agree 1000% that full length zoom air cushion would improve sale-ability and satisfaction. i'm not sure why anyone besides under 30s would want more feel and less cushion. Bone spurs prevent me from being able to wear many shoes. Looking forward to reading the updates list of reviews - i now know plan b can be the challenge pro tho - that's nice.

GP Turbo lover and bought the Challenge 1. Highly disappointed and there is another issue with the shoe that I haven't seen anyone mention and this made me abandon the shoe after 1 month. If you look at the speed board/shank from the outside it appears to be parallel to the ground so one might think that it is flat and goes straight across to the other side. Keep in mind I walk more on the outsides of my foot but after a long/hard pickleball session I had this extreme pain in the outside most metatarsal which I thought was strange as I've never experiences this with any other shoe. So I started looking/feeling inside the shoe to see what the issue was and what I found is that the speed board/shank doesn't go straight across. It's parallel to the ground until it gets inside the shoe and then it make an sharp angle change to transition to more of cup inside the shoe. Where that transition from flat to cup is there a very hard edge/corner and that edge what was hitting my metatarsal when I was planting my foot to stop laterally. I'm just getting over the pain after almost 2 months (but no I didn't stop playing pickleball during this time as the addition is real. I just changed shoes :)

Props for speaking up about the Challenge 1! It was such a disappointment when they stopped producing the GP turbo, and replaced it with this! I went as far as hoarding several pairs of Turbos until I eventually just switched entirely. Keep up the good content Doc! Any thoughts on the best basketball shoe for tennis?

Same here, using Lotto raptor with easyfeet insole now for match play. Using the overpriced challenge 1 once a week for practice, they seem to wear out fast. Such a disappointment

Sorry but these shoes are great. Good cushion and lateral stability. They don’t feel bulky and are quick imo. Didn’t expect this based on Zach’s reviews. Way better support than vapor 11

They're okay shoes. Great cushioning but everything else, particularly the lacing, lack of lock in etc, is sub par IMO. Vapor 11 are better if you don't mind the lack of cushion and the Cage line better still.

Hey Zach, do you think this shoe, and probably the majority of the current Nike line, are victims of budget reductions at Nike? I had heard that Nike killed off their design teams for each sport and consolidated design into either one or a few teams? Kinda sad when you think that even Zoom Air was in Nike tennis shoes before basketball.........

Hi, dearest Doctor Zach! Why do not we all together just come up with a production of a perfect pair of tennis shoe? We have Kickstarter, we have ideal pair of turbos as an example, we have our Chinese friends who know how to produce, Indians successfuly have their robot landed on the other side of the Moon. Probably we all together will be able to reach the goal of producing the "Perfect Zach Tennis Shoe"? Every tennis and basketball shop on the planet will buy that fir their customers. P.S. patents and etc.? no worries, mates from the golden billon countries! we will ship them to you online. we are familiar with these issues )) P.P.S I wore down 15 of GP Turbos, 2 of Challenge Pro, and curently i am playing in Challenge 1 and experiencing knee pain as they are so stiff!
