If you're talking about high-end shoes, one isn't necessarily better than the other, they're just different. Every shoe has something different to offer, and you should pick your shoes based on your own personal preferences. Based on what you're saying, you've implied that there is one single shoe that is "better" than the rest, which is quite simply not the case.

I think one of the reasons why there's so much confusion over cleats is that people are actually unaware of their preferences. Unless they get try out several different cleats/boots in actual games as well as practices, it's hard to tell what you really like. I have two preferences now - I love the vapor 10 sometimes, and I love a K leather boot sometimes. As far as soft touch and control goes, I have yet to find a synthetic boot that does what leather can do in terms of soft touch and easy control. For a fast feeling and fun boot, I love playing in the vapor 10 more than any other lightweight synthetic I've had the chance to try.

Hey Josh, when you did a play test of the vapor 11 and superfly 5, did you feel the stud in the mid foot? The one that is in the middle of the stud pattern. I've tried on both shoes and it really dissapointed me because I felt a lot of stud pressure. maybe it is my foot, my arch falls a bit. However, I've tried on the veloce 3 and it feels a lot better to me. I've tried on the vapor 10s and they feel perfect, but i do have a bit of space in some parts of the shoe. I was just wondering if anyone else feels the stud pressure like I do when i wear the new mercurials, thank you for the video! God bless ya Josh

The problem with very low-end shoes is that they're essentially all variations of the same thing. The quality isn't very good, and they're all very similar. There's no reason to call one better than the other, because none of them are all that great.

I just got a new pair of Vapor 11's and so far after playing in them for the first time I feel extreme pain in the sides/outside edge of my foot. Does this mean I don't fit into this cleat even though I've fit into mercurials in the past or do these cleats just need to be broken in?

It's fairly normal to have some kind of discomfort the first time that you wear a new pair of shoes. Unless they feel immediately uncomfortable, the cramping will likely go away after a few wears.

I've never heard anybody with that complaint about the Vapor 10. The upper material and general construction is the same on the Vapor 11, so if you didn't like the 10, I would probably go for something else.

The amount shape to the soleplate isn't as extreme as I think you might be expecting. Given that the shoes are the right size, you won't have any issues.

The cables is what hinders the upper of the Vapor 11 in my opinion. It makes the upper feel stiff right out of the box. The new technology used in the Vapor 11 soleplate is a great idea and feels good but like I said the upper feels too stiff. I personally prefer teijin that feels sticky when wet. I actually like the golf ball style feel of the Vapor 9. It did not look pretty but the touch and shot was really good. The Vapor 4 and the original R9 have been the best Mercurials I have ever worn.

The Mercurial Vapor IX is probably the worst one in recent years IMO, I have worn nothing but Vapors. The upper seems like just straight up rubbery hard plastic. The indents made to lock your foot in place gives more people arch pains than helping, i work at my local soccer store so customers tell me this as we’ll as me owning a pair, the vapor viii was good except durability with the upper and the hallow studs in the back broke off easily, the vapor IX was almost near perfect the upper and sole plate did not come apart as easily, the fiber glass is probably the best to date why do you think pros go back to it on custom pairs or the Sg pros? It isn’t a coincidence. The problem once again with the ix was the hallow studs in the back. The Vapor X had potential to be one of the best Vapors in history if they stuck with the fiber glass soleplate and added the strip they added to the XI so the upper and soleplate wouldn’t separate. They took a huge step back wards with the XI. Focused way to much on durability in my opinion that they seemed to careless about comfort and staying true to the Vapor. The only good thing in my opinion on the XI is probably the stud pattern, if it was mixed in with the fiber glass that would probably be almost damn near perfect. And then the plastic strip they added under the toe box for separation purposes. Other than that I think the XI is nothing special.

I'm not a soccer player, just a parent. Why do people like the barefoot feel? And if the material is thin, doesn't it hurt more when you kick? I noticed the tongue folds over in the center if the foot doesn't push up enough, maybe because of being flat footed? or narrow? What do people do for that since the tongue is stitched and one can't spread it over the foot.

With proper technique, you won't hurt your foot, even without shoes. People like a really thin upper as it provides the closest possible feel to actually playing with no shoes at all. It's all a matter of personal preference. Generally the fold through the middle only occurs when the shoes are too big. With proper sizing, like I show with the shoes on my feet in the video, the central piece should be slightly under tension. If you have the correct size and still get a fold through the middle, there really isn't anything you can do about it.

Your foot will feel like it will be sliding in the shoe and won't feel as responsive. However since it is only half size up try to add an extra sock or an extra pad. If your foot is still growing it should be fine.
