Totally agree with P Rod that skaters are underpaid compared to other pro athletes. I have sunk countless three-pointers and I’m sure if I was 6’ 5” I could dunk all day but I will never in my life land one banger that P Rod does in any of his videos. I mean seriously, how can you even compare someone flipping a board under his feet while flying over a set of stairs and landing on it perfectly- with a 7 foot tall man putting a ball in a hoop that’s 10 feet off the ground. Don’t get me wrong all pro athletes are talented but skaters are on another level

This comment is underrated

because there's another 7ft man whos job is to stop the that 7ft man from putting the ball in the hoop, as well as the four other players on the other team looking to stop him. You can make the argument that athletes are overpaid but guys like prod, nyjah, ishod are more than well off because of their insane amount of high-end sponsors. It really does come down to each persons viewpoint of skating, whether you see it as a real sport or not, which people do and don't even though it quickly is becoming more and more mainstream to the point where the line is blurring. I don't. Prod is the goat and I'm not trying to shit on you with this comment but I feel like if ur a pro skater u shouldn't be in it for the money. Even if u were good enough and got to the amount of success that someone like prod has I think you should be happy with the money you'd be making already. Like how lucky are you you got to make a real career out of of skateboarding? skateboarding?? if I was pro I'd be happy everyday knowing my name was just on a board. forever. not to say that I wouldn't want to get paid, good money too, but I wouldn't need millions of dollars, it just sounds silly and doesn't make much sense. skaters aren't athletes. IMO
@camembertcheese70923 жыл бұрын
@@smokingzaza you bring up some interesting points for sure, but I think maybe you misunderstood what I was getting at. I wasn’t talking about wether skateboarding should be viewed as a sport, wether skateboarders are athletes or how appreciative they should be for the money they make or any of that stuff. I’m just saying the action of skateboarding in itself is way more difficult, dangerous and skilled than traditional sports like basketball so it’s a bummer they don’t get paid like other athletes. I know why they don’t: the traditional sports have a wider audience therefore more money in the sport. But if wages were based on difficulty level, skaters would be paid way more than traditional sports. I mean you mention the challenges a 7” basketball player has putting the ball in the net, but if a guy like PRod loses focus for one second performing a banger it’s a trip to the hospital.

@TaketheK I N G D O M Yeah, but when the big brands don't want to deal with you because the scene in your country is too small, you wonder if they really care about skateboarding in the first place. I opened up the first skate shop in The Bahamas in 2019 and couldn't stock any skate shoes because Nike (including Converse) didn't see The Bahamas as part of their "market development strategy", Adidas doesn't distribute skate shoes in the Caribbean, Vans and New Balance have ridiculous order minimums and Lakai, DC, Emerica, etc. never even got back to us. Thank God for Pontus Alv and Last Resort so we can finally have proper skate shoes over here!

I think, in Elissa's particular case, she's referring to the fact that she had been competing at the men's level for quite a while, and holding her own, then was suddenly forced to compete in a women's division that paid significantly less.

@@ohalistair At no point has any women ever been on a men's level in any professional sport. Womens skateboarding is 10x the level it has ever been and they're still out there doing tre flips, front 180s and 50-50s as their banger ender. And that's if they make it to the end of a 40 second run. Not shitting on women but it's just not even comparable.
