Your glass may have the same thickness, but car windows are made from tempered glass, which are a lot harder and shatter into small nasty cubes (typically 4x4x4mm), each with 12 sharp sides and 8 corners. They are not able to cut down to your blood vessels, but will leave your hands with dozens of (minor) cuts, bleeding like a pig ! Being glass, the particals are also hard to find inside a wound for removal. Testing the glass breaker on regular glass is pretty much useless. As far as I know the keyring holder is hardened too and can be used as a glass breaker without any mods or extra parts - just protect your hand and wrist, either with gloves or by other means like pulling down the sleeve of your jacket or with a towel. Merry Christmas, Nik, and a healthy New Year !

My brother had a broken car window accident in the past, I removed many pieces of glass from his body using the tweezers of the Swiss army knife.In fact, in the video we are not examining whether the window breaker can break the window of a vehicle, it is a given that it can break the window. In the video we are examining whether the glass breaker can function in any standard Swiss Army knife without causing any damage to the knife. I think it is a good idea because you do not need to modify your knife, also if the glass breaker suffers any damage we replace the breaker and not our knife. Some tools can function as a window breaker in emergencies,like the awl,the hook,the phillips head ect.The key ring cannot function as a glass breaker, it is very soft metal(45 rockwell hardeness) and it is also not pointy enough,You can watch several video tests on KZbin.Also, using these tools as a glass breaker could damage our knife.Thank you,Greetings from Hellas(Greece),Happy new year.

The Rescue tool has a glass saw and a seat belt cutter with the worlds sharpest blase on it ! And replaceable ! God mod !

True, perhaps the only rescue tool in the world that has a glass saw. This is the most complete rescue multi-tool, it is an award-winning tool. However, the modification does not come to replace the rescue tool, but to provide a solution to anyone who does not have the ability to buy or carry the rescue tool, thank you,Happy New Year.

Nice idea and well done. It would be better to test on toughened glass that its designed for.
@nikgyver716 күн бұрын
I don't think it makes sense to test it on harder glass because it's designed to break a vehicle's glass, obviously it will cause damage to harder glass.Thank you,Greetings from Hellas(Greece),Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi Nikos, thanks for your interesting videos. As an emergency glass breaker, why not simply use the keyring holder? (no need to remove the keyring) It’s part of the SAK chassis, so it’s very stable. Alternatively, couldn’t we use the phillips screwdriver head in SAK models in which it’s at the top (rather than on the side)? Such models are: Swiss Champ, Explorer, Outrider, Work Champ, Skipper. (Perhaps also the mini SAKs with philips: Mini Champ, Rambler, Manager, Jetsetter)

@ If you’re referring to the keyring holder/eyelet, then after posting I remembered the video by Felix Immler, which didn’t succeed with it. However, I’ve never seen a video about trying to use the Philips screwdriver. People on the internet say you need to first scratch the glass, then hit it, and always cover your hand with a rag to prevent damage from glass.

Personally, I think that using a glass breaker is the best solution for the following reasons: 1. It is a given that a glass breaker can break the glass. 2. We do not need to modify the knife, so we do not lose the warranty. 3. If the glass breaker suffers any damage, we simply replace the glass breaker. If we use any tool as a glass breaker, there is a high probability of damaging our knife. 4. The glass breaker has a frame around the perimeter which protects the knife and our hand from a possible impact with the glass. The key ring cannot function as a glass breaker, it is very soft metal(45 rockwell hardeness) and it is also not pointy enough,You can watch several video tests on KZbin.Thank you,Greetings from Hellas(Greece),Happy new year.

@@nikgyver7 Nikos, thanks for your detailed response. I agree that a dedicated glass breaker is obviously best when you have it. Regarding losing warranty: if anyone can save their own or someone else’s life at the cost of damaging a SAK, I would think it’s a good deal!… Happy New Year

Is it even possible to punch through a modern, large and hardened car window with this? It's not easy to punch through using breakers included in MicroTech knives, and this is just a pretty wide chunk of metal. Piece of glass you've used is small and not covered in whatever makes the car window to retain their shape after cracking, making it easy to break, as larger sheats of glass handle bends better and have more area for energy to disperse. You'd be able to crack it with a screwdriver. The fact that the breaker falls off is a dealbreaker, as you'd certainly need multiple strikes against a proper car window.

If the breaker comes off, we reposition it and strike again, what if the screwdriver is damaged after the first strike?Thank you,Greetings from Hellas(Greece),Happy new year.

Saluti.
@nikgyver716 күн бұрын
Of course we are not comparing the original rescue tool. What I found is that the tool works effectively, the difference with the original rescue tool is that the glass breaker can sometimes come out of place and has to be repositioned.Thank you,Greetings from Hellas(Greece).
