17 years ago I saw Pandit Kishan Maharaj perform. It was astounding. He is missed and this performance with Pandit Nikhil Banerjee sees two of the greatest musicians of the classical Hindustani tradition combined. Genius, pure and simple.

dha dhin -- dha dha tin -- ta tin -- dhd dha dhin -- 14 beats. the gaps make it a confusing tal, especially this fast. in madya laya it's called deepchandi, and is popular in thumri songs. the first part is sitarkhani, but the first fast gat is in chachar tal. wonderful recording!!

Nikhil Banerjee is the best Sitarist of Maihar Gharana. Beenkar Acharya Alauddin Khan Sahib taught him in the playing style of Nawab keramatullah Khan Sahib of Lucknow. Khan Sahib taught his adopted son Ravi in a different style.
