The characterisation of 'self insert' protagonists is always interesting. They're supposed to be blank slates but they can't help but give them a personality through their dialog options and choices. The commander is portrayed as empathetic to the extreme, to the point he can't help sympathise with people he really shouldn't. It's not that he's gullible, it's almost like he willingly walks in to peoples traps because he'd feel bad if he didn't. It's funny how he's so zealous nikkes always tell him "We really appreciate how nice you are to nikkes but..."

The FGO MC is also a self-insert....until the story gave them severe PTSD because of the story events.....and maybe forced genocide.

To be fair, the Ark fucked over Crow significantly more than she fucked over the Ark. I totally understand why Crow wants to punish the Ark. Every civilization needs a chaos agent like Crow to humble it. As a result, I don't hate her. I think the Ark deserves a bit partial decimation and chaos.

I would hate Crow if she still did what she did for no reason or a bad reason. But Crow is victim of even worse people than her. So I can't hate her for that. Also the commander's a bit of a hypocrite for liking Nihilister yet also hating on Crow despite Nihilister being more evil than Crow. All the hate on Crow is even more skewed than Crow's mindset.

I think that applies to many players. She was one of my first ssr's and I thought "Damn she's hot, she even worships Khorne." Then I played those chapters and was like "F**k you Crow, hope you perish slow, and painful."
