Cracks me up to hear Tommy say they all pulled together for Vince after his tragic accident (Hanoi Rocks Drummer who died in Vinces car) & how they all became closer after that! Now, 36 years later, & after reading each one’s autobiography & Nikki’s other 2 books, (& countless interviews, etc) we know how completely bogus those remarks were! Nikki admitted he never called Vince. They said before it changed the dynamics of the band. Vince stayed bitter until he finally quit in 94’ - 95’, & said they shunned him! And throwing the drugs in his face like that! Nikki did say he popped pills, but don’t fake heroin for coke! That was wrong. What should have brought them together, tore them up in ways. Interestingly enough was how Nikki admitted they had been in car wrecks while drunk! In 83’ or 84’ Nikki’s accident resulted in his bad shoulder which resulted in prescribed pain pills which resulted in his addiction which resulted in his eventual Heroin use, which led to his death Teice! On Valentines Day in London, in 1986, (think “Dancin’ on Glass”) & his 2 minute recorded death 12/23/86 after partying with Slash & getting that lethal dose! No one deserted him…. 💋❤️🔥🤘🏼🕯

I grew up in a strict Christian home-a teenager during the Satanic Panic. Bob Larson (prior to becoming the Christian "LaVey") gave metal bands free promos while Geraldo Rivera exposed Satan's underground and churches piled heavy metal and rock albums for destruction via steam roller. It all made me more inquisitive about the genre. It was difficult being a Christian teenager in a public school. Ironically, music became my rebellion and progressively, over time, it is how I would relate to my new found friends. Twenty some years later, we can look at our folks and say everything turned out okay... Thank Jesus! I wonder if the crue is ever going to release their backmasking greatest hits. God gave rock n roll to everyone! oh yeah!

THIS is true what Nikki was saying here, the Crue were accessible by the public in that early era. Especially when they were scouting venues or setting up and not real hurried, They drank half a jug of wine with us in the Keystone parking lot one night, and it was an off night , they weren't due to play till the next evening. The entire band, all 4, stopped to shoot the shit with us just because they had nothing better to do. I think that was 1984, but my memory is not good with dates.

They have always come off as being a "produced image" band...many of the 80's Strip bands did. They were one of the better bands from a musical standpoint, they at least wrote "real" music when most bands were garbage. Gn'R were the best but, came along much later in the decade.
@allsystemsgo867810 жыл бұрын
As far as that era/scene, there was Motley and Guns, and then there was everyone else. They were easily the two best bands in my opinion.
@stevee23110 жыл бұрын
Trulysarcastic44 I agree 110% although to those 2, in my opinion, had 3rd party company with Quiet Riot. But after those 3, there were a handful of other bands that were great players and proved to be good songwriters as well on certain songs but were just destroyed by either wholly relying on popular recording techniques of the 80's there by dating their music or they had really over the top hair/clothing/stage show or gave into record companies wishes for musical direction or allowed said label to bring in "professional song-smiths" to help write material which brought the bubblegum aspect to capacity....and sometimes these bands that were guilty of all of those reasons. These were bands like Ratt, Cinderella, E'nuff Z'nuff, Queensryche, LA Guns, all of whom I think could have been great bands if not for what I said above.....but then, the Britney Fox's, the White Lion's, the Bullet Boys...ya' know, all of the ridiculous crap that was fake and put together like The Monkees, were just terrible man...just terrible. No integrity at all. I think the biggest problem with Ratt, E'nuff Z'nuff and all of those other bands I mentioned is that they embraced production techniques that were the new "in thing" of the time. It's when the shift away from analog started and digital started being the norm. And the problem with this though is digital was still a new format and was far from being perfected and sound VERY 80's. I am a *BIG TIME* believer that bands should never use the hot new techniques because it will always, ALWAYS.... *ALWAYS*...(and did I mention always)...date your music. And lets face it, that BIG GIANT digital reverb that was used in the 80's, sounds cheesy as all cheddar in current day. The bands like Motley and Gn'R didn't do this (I'm lying...Theater of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls both employed the 80's method and even though they were 2 of the 3 biggest selling Crue records, I think most would agree that they are the 2 worst Motley albums)..but other than those 2, they and Gn'R stuck to the tried and true Eddie Kramer/Glynn Johns techniques on how to produce Rock n' Roll. They didn't dress it up all fancy and single track everything because they understood what Rock n' Roll was...simple, raw and to the point, stick the band in a big room that produces it's own reverb so that digital never was used, they recorded the band live in studio, they didn't use volume gates to make the chorus and hook of a song extra loud in the mix and (what I consider the most important part of producing a bad ass rock n' roll record)...ambient mic's instead of direct mic's. And which bands from the Hollywood of the 80's scene still pack in arenas? Motley, Gn'r and thats because their music always *SOUNDS* relevant. Where are the cheesy bands like Ratt and Cinderella playing these day? Clubs and theaters that have a fire code off 500 maximum capacity....or worse yet, aren't playing anywhere.
@allsystemsgo867810 жыл бұрын
Steve E I mostly agree. I think a lot of these bands took the easy route and decided to copy the fashion and production techniques of the day. Very short-sited. The two things I would disagree: your ranking of Quiet Riot is so high. I like a few songs, but never thought they were anything special-although their impact is very important overlooked, they certainly help start the L.A. scene/sound. I think Queensryche was a brilliant band, I would never lump in those other bands. They were a prog band. Granted, they did adopt the L.A. look on the first few albums, but Tate wrote some amazing lyrics. As far as Guns and Motley, they were the two heaviest bands in terms of their sound and their lyrics, which is another reason why they hold up today. The rest of those bands didn't take any risks.
@lrn_news91719 жыл бұрын
What the fuck? How about Dokken? They were like one of the pioneers that always wrote "real" music with lyrics that were not about drinking and pussy. You guys should be ashamed to have forgotten that band.
