Hi Nikki. I adopted a dog that appeared to have a similar skin condition many years ago. No tick-related illnesses that I was aware of. My veterinarian recommended that I add omega 3 fatty acids to his diet. For what it's worth, it did the trick!

Our German shepherd was losing hair on the tips of her ears and was scratching all over. I started eliminating “people” food I was guilty of giving her (mainly the ends of our sourdough bread) and the itching stopped and after a couple months the hair grew back.

Hi from Reno! Just wanted to drop in and say I love watching you and your dogs. It's become a ritual for me and my 3 yr old to watch your videos on Fridays. We've been going through a hard time the last month, so having a video to look forward to on Fridays has helped a lot. Thank you for being so kind and genuine. Also, I know Cyan Park in South Reno has a wonderful dog park, and I believe you can park there overnight (but double-check on that since I'm not 100% sure). I wish you all the best.

Niki love your dogs, in doing so please refrain from letting Rodney from riding in your lap. A few years ago I saw a traffic accident when I came to help, I saw that the woman in the driver’s seat was okay, but the dog she had in her lap was killed (broken neck). The air bag had released and well it was tragic. Happy travels with your doggie family. 🥰🤗

@@katekaos honestly she can be a huge idiot sometimes, I definitely feel like Rodney was a mistake for her to adopt. she cut her available dog food supply in half by adding another mouth to feed, now has 2 dogs to look out for and Rodney doesn't even look like he wants to be there half the time. He's happiest moments are in the van comfy, he's a lap dog and deserves a nice big house. It honestly felt pretty selfish of her to adopt him considering her cramped conditions and lifestyle.

@@jakelesnake I’m sure he’s in better hands with her than wherever he was before. I think he was in that Utah shelter. But yes it’s hard to have bigger dogs in a van full-time. Vet tech here 👋🏻 worked in dermatology. Did you see a dermatologist? There’s a condition we commonly see in poodles, but any breed can have it, called sebaceous adenitis. It doesn’t look exactly like it, but hard to say. Vasculitis of some sort, maybe. He should have a derm take a biopsy of one of those lesions to confirm what’s going on. I wouldn’t have anyone but a derm do it - they know how to select the best spots to sample. Hope you get some answers!
@NikkiDelventhal
@NikkiDelventhal 11 ай бұрын
Omg thank you for reaching out! I did see a derm! We did a scrape and a skin punch test! Bingo on the extreme vasculitis, they said the scarring is so deep! They said perhaps the tick illnesses are hitting hard so we’re trying that and it seems to be happening less and less so let’s hope! Thanks for the input this is so helpful!
@LisaRichter92
@LisaRichter92 11 ай бұрын
@@NikkiDelventhal ah, excellent, so glad you saw a derm! Now the question can be if the vasculitis is from the tick bites themselves or the tick-borne disease since both can cause it - I guess if he was getting new lesions those would be from the tick-borne disease. He is seeing the best folks to treat him for it. Glad he’s having less issues with it!

I am not sure if it is the same thing or not, but I took in a rescue dachshund/beagle mix about 14 years ago and he had what the vet called heat spots all over his body. The spots were where the hair was falling out and were bald. But he constantly scratched at the spots. The vet felt it was due to his previous owners feeding him nothing but human food scraps, which is what they told me they had fed him. it took me about 6 months to get him on a good dog food, he hated it at first, then with a special bath shampoo within a year it was all cleared up. Wishing the best for your little guy Rodney! Super glad he found a great home!

G'day Nikki, Michelle here from beautiful Jervis Bay in Australia. It's actually 5.55am Saturday 17th as I text this, so Good Morning! I have been a HUGE fan of yours since your Prius days and remain loyal to your channel as you are the greatest ❤ antidepressant ever!!! One of my most fave vids was when you climbed a massive tree and slept up there. "Wild thang, you make my heart sing!" Good to see home depot hasn't changed it's PAWlicy 😂 Little Rodney is gorgeous and besotted with you! Who wouldn't be, you are heaps of fun!! On a more serious note, my cat used to have patches of hair loss on his head. I popped into a vet for a quick chat at front desk and she said, make a weak tea like solution of Betadine liquid and water and with cotton wool dab it on the bald patches. It totally cleared up and never returned. Do it regularly. Just in a little cup add say a tsp of betadine, then just a bit of water to form a weak tea solution. Saturate cotton wool and dab on regularly, hopefully it's in a place he can't lick easily. Cortisone should be avoided if possible. The vet I saw agreed. Anyway beautiful woman, keep smiling😃 and keep cutting those carrots like a playboy bunny 😂 Stay safe and happy! Big squeezy hugs for our favourite boy Campy - my nickname for him. What an amazing friend you have in him. The magical still shots you have with you and Camp together are just awesome! I have never been to the USA, so it's been a joy to see your beautiful country through your eyes and armchair travel - well usually I'm horizontal 😂 See you Nik on the next one. tip for the sandfly bites - burn them with your hairdryer. You will get about 8hrs of relief each time, and after you burn them a couple each (usually 3 or 4 for me) the itch will be permanently gone. Some people can itchnfrom bites for weeks with no relief. I got destroyed in Thailand from them years ago and had purple hyperpigmention scarring from them for months. I tried steroids, topical steroids, antihistamines, topical antihistamines, tiger balm, ice packs, local made salves etc and it wasnt until someone in a forum said to burn them with the hottest thing you could stand did i get any relief. Now i use that method if i get bites down in the keys or anywhere in FL really. Life saver.

Not trying to be a Karen, just some info. It is dangerous to let a dog sit on your lap while driving. In an accident they can be hurt by the steering wheel. Also a seat harness for the front seat for Camper could save him injury or worse. Although your s safe driver there are a lot who aren’t. With any bites, use DMSO. It itches a little bit right after application, but once you make it past that initial itch, it will stop the itching and heal it faster.

Nicki please do not drive with your dog on your lap, if you are in an accident your dog will not survive, either from the airbag or when you are thrown forward. As a retired volunteer FF I have seen this happen. Broke my heart.

It's rechargeable but it holds a charge up to a year or like 60 uses plus it has ports to charge all your other devices from the battery pack if you need to. They're around $50 and one of the most convenient things that I've ever had in my car. I've also been able to help other people who were stranded. Just FYI

At 10:41 she's in Sparks, NV - NOT Reno. TA is a nice truck stop however the Alamo a mile east, and on the other side of the freeway is better, cleaner, and nicer if you're going to shower. If you look past the "Pee jug" at 13:43 you'll see the Burger King that my friends and I have coffee at twice a week. They're nice at that BK and when the pandemic hit they locked the doors so we ordered drive thru and left one parking spot open where we'd get out folding chairs and hang out. We met a lot of nice truckers too during that period.

2:30 Ingrown toenail cure: just file the top arch of the nail. It will make the nail grow up into the scratched area instead into the toe. I learned this 30 years ago from a doctor and works every time. Haven’t had one in many years now.

As someone who gets ingrown toenails every time I clip them, here are some tips: 1) shove a cottonball under the nail as far back as you can, it helps gradually lift the nail. 2) take a pocket knife and slowly shave the center of the top of your nail so it slowly lifts the nail, don’t do it too thin, but thin enough you’ll feel the difference. 3) sterilize a pocket knife with a small point and use that to lift the nail. It hurts but it’s temporary. Hope it helps!

Apply Witchhazel on a cotton ball 2xday to bald spots. Our 1 adopted pup had some balding spots also, home remedy from our vet as no cause found. It worked, took about 2 mos to see hair regrowth. Luck and Luv to you and your pups.

My wife and I spend a lot of our time outdoors. I highly recommend lavender oil for bites such as fire ants or sand fleas. Stops the itching and heals quickly. Tea tree, cedar and eucalyptus oils also work well. All are safe for the dogs also. We have three GSDs and use oils to treat their bites. Please purchase high quality oils and not from Walmart or other chain brands.

A few life hacks: itchy skin via rash, mosquito bites, etc hair dryer. In grown roe nail, dig it out, sorry, and let your toe nail grow out. I.no longer cut nails too close where nail meets the skin. Hope this helps! Thanks for sharing your journey.

Hey Nikki! Our pup Greta had something similar, if not the same thing. She was a rescue and we went to vets from the East Coast where we adopted to her to the west where we eventually lived. The only vet who was able to sort her out was Dr. Jean Greek who owns the Dermatology and Animal Clinic for Animals in Santa Barbara and Ventura, California. Not sure if you'll be headed south any time soon, but I would HIGHLY recommend going to see her. Our pup had this patchy hair loss issue for years, stumped every vet, and she figured it out. And she's just an amazing wealth of knowledge. Best of luck!

I used to stay away from plastic bottles but if you noticed your grocery cart was full of food wrapped in plastic so I gave up on that. I like to think you can balance the toxins with exercise. Also, I think I might have seen you at Costco once (Miami). Yeah, that was random. Love the channel.

I had a dog with Addisons disease (opposite of Cushings, but still the same adrenal dysfunction), but they couldn’t diagnose because they gave her prednisone before the test. It’s been so long ago I can’t remember, but something to consider if you’re not getting the proper diagnosis. Also, stress from all the changes could absolutely alter the immune system. Once things truly settle out and the Lyme is under control, his system may revert back to normal. I’ve had Lyme 30 years and it’s morphed into chemical/mold sensitivity. Lyme can do a lot of things to the system, even cause food allergies. Rodney may be experiencing some of this. As always, love your videos and your fur babies☃️

Hi Nikki: Try Aloe Vera gel with lidocaine which numbs pain and itching for the bug bites. Look in the sunscreen aisle, usually on the bottom shelf. It’s used for sunburn relief, but it’s come in handy for other skin irritations like hives and shingles. There are also Solarcaine and Australian Gold brands. Keep it on hand, so you will be able to sleep. Good luck!

Nikki, I would suggest asking the vet to test for allergies for Rodney. Our boy after he turned 1 started having similar issues and it turns out, he is allergic to chicken or any treats with chicken. We feed him all kinds of meat with rice, & dry kibble is salmon .

My dog had something similar where it would bite at flies causing a bald spot. The rash spots came from flea bites and were cleared up with topical application of Witch Hazel. Extra attention to flea prevention is important.
