If you go back and watch Season 2/3 again you can see that Billy isn't a bad guy he's just troubled. A good example is when he's playing basketball against Steve and knocks him down. He actually gives him good advice right after. Generally you can see that he wants the best for people but has a bad way of expressing it, it's like an extreme form of tough love sometimes. Like when he yells at the fat kid at the pool, he's being an asshole about it but I'm sure he really just doesn't want the fat kid to slip and hurt himself.

@seanred76815 жыл бұрын
I feel like all the characters are essential, even if sometimes they are not given that much to do. It hard to give every character such involved storylines when you have a cast this big, especially season after season.
@deg1studios5 жыл бұрын
@@amylamourxoxo Mrs Wheeler giving her the pep talk would be powerful IF Mrs Wheeler had done anything or shown any strong character traits. The only thing she has done in the entire series is fight the urge to cheat on her husband. And Nancy's arc wasn't anything special. I don't think it was important enough to push aside two main characters and Will. Lucas's only contribution to season 3 was giving Mike relationship advice and showing us how sad Will's situation is. Mike had some emotional growth, but he used to be the main dude and he did almost nothing up until the final fight. And they really should have built more on Will's upcoming move and his feelings about all that. It's like he beats on castle byers, then he forgets he was sad the rest of the season until the epilogue. And the investigation into the rats and the old woman (forgot her name) didn't really reveal much about the mind flayer. It felt mostly like filler trying to hide as a plot point.
@kristagemini5 жыл бұрын
I didn't think it was possible, but I really feel sorry for Billie. This episode was so emotional. Dealing with abuse, in any way is incredibly hard, but especially when it's the abuse of a child, that's just evil and horrible. I really think that Billie is struggling. He is kind of being used the way that Will was being used before. He is still inside, he's still there, but the mind flare can take control over him at any moment. His tears just absolutely broke me. He is the product of abuse. I couldn't stand him before, but seeing his story really made a difference. He is still a child, but even so, the consequences of ramifications of abuse is something that never really goes away. It takes time, and therapy, and a loving environment, and Billie hasn't ever had any of that. He IS still a child. He just graduated high school, so he isn't so far removed from his abuse. It's just a really tough and horrible thing all the way around. This episode really made me feel for him, which is a testament to the Duffer Brothers writing. (That... is how you write an amazing show... *coughD&Dcough*) I adore Robin and Steves blossoming friendship. They were so funny this episode. They have great chemistry and play off of one another. I love the way that they use both humor and drama in this show. They manage to weave both of those things together very well. E Pluribus Unum- Out of many, One. It's on our money. Supposed to be representing the union that is America. Unfortunately, these days, I'm not sure we are living up to or deserving of that statement.

this show is playing in the 80ies and in the 80ies nerd for sure was an insult.. as a nerd you belonged to the uncool kids who played video games, read comics and stayed at home because the cool kids did not wanna hang with you.. nowadays everything that was nerdy back then has become mainstream (gaming, comics including tons of superhero movies) and "nerd" is the new "cool"

@TheNaughtyFrench4 жыл бұрын
Being french it's complicated for me to understand the meaning of nerd because it's not a terminology we use in France actually we don't associate a smart person, a passionate, a cultivated person and a gamer to describing them in one word. the word nowadays people use here in France who is "technically" considered like the synonym of "Nerd" in America is the word 'geek' people here call gamers "Geek" and no it's never been an insult. Because here gamers and smart people are considered like cool and amazing but different cultures I guess
@crappiefisher13314 жыл бұрын
@@TheNaughtyFrench like i said: i was talking about the 80ies.. not sure if you are old enough to have lived through the eighties.. nowadays everything people back then insulted others as "nerds" for has become mainstream like gaming, comics, fantasy, sci-fi, superheroes, anime or animated movies in general, which was considered "kids stuff" back then.. . back then it was kinda unimaginable that a person in their 30ies would be into anime/animated movies... nowadays people in their 30ies happily sing the pokemon intro song... back then even most of my close friends looked weird at me when i was already 21 (mid 90ies) and started to watch the first animes which slowly found their way into the western market (ignoring older stuff like "captain future" or "saber rider" which no one called "anime" back then) .. btw: the 90ies also was the time when people started to "reclaim" the word nerd and slowly turned it into something with a more positive connotation . nowadays even stuff like playing pen and paper RPGs has become mainstream-y with people watching other people play D&D campaigns on twitch and youtube.... . so yeah nowadays the insult "nerd" doesn't work anymore, because all these niché things have become mainstream and almost everyone either plays video games, watches anime or shows interest in P&P, fantasy, sci-fi and so forth.. . nowadays "nerd" isn't an insult anymore and people proudly refer to themselves as nerds when they are really into something, while back then "nerd" would have been what the "cool" kids called the "uncool" kids who preferred to stay at home and learn some programming on their C64 instead of being the "tough" guy who is into sports and claims to have a new girl every week ;) . let me also quote what wikipedia has to say: . "A nerd is a person seen as overly intellectual, obsessive, introverted or lacking social skills. Such a person may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, little known, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical, abstract, or relating to topics of science fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities. Additionally, many so-called nerds are described as being shy, quirky, pedantic, and unattractive. . Originally derogatory, the term "nerd" was a stereotype, but as with other pejoratives, it has been reclaimed and redefined by some as a term of pride and group identity."

What I find most interesting and lends itself to some of my early theories about what the upside-down actually is and what the creatures are that inhabit it. I've always wondered is there more than one Mindflayer? Where there is an origin of life, there is insane diversity. I've always assumed the Mindflayer isn't something of the void or some shadow monster. It's a creature, one with immense physical and psychic powers. Though not strong enough to tear holes in dimensions itself, but still it's very capable of using the same powers El has started to use but cannot match her strength while having his main body in the upside-down. So he needed to manifest a body into the real world hence his building. But is it part of a species of sentient beings? Billy spoke not as Billy or at least it seemed very much like there was 0 of billy speaking then. As how would billy know about Eleven opening the gate and letting the species into this reality. The Mindflayer was speaking as a sentient and thinking creature. He said "You let US in" and "Now we". He is not alone in his description of himself. I've also considered the MF could be talking about his hosts. But he doesn't appear to give any value to them or seem to care about them. They're totally disposable and he is basically in full control of them anyway, he wouldn't account for their consciousnesses in his self description I feel. He is very much strong enough to be dominant and speak for himself (assuming the thing is a male, he's been mentioned as he in the show so) but yet he still chooses "We" "Us".

I will always hate the excuse "Oh, I'm an asshole because my childhood was rough" that's never a valid excuse. I had one HELL of a bad childhood that has left scars (mental & physical) & I've been a nice guy my entire life. It's up to us to decide who we are, blaming the past is weak. Billy is 100% at fault for being mean to everyone.
