Nikki, that is Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) as Victor Creel. His appearance plus all the 80s horror references has really made this show even more special to me. Max deserves an award for that performance. It really blew me away. I’ve been listening to Kate Bush on repeat since watching the episode. And yes I did watch all of season 4 volume 1 in the dark 🖤

Lots of little twisty intertwined nods. Vecna's appearance (the big clawed hand) and modus operandi of killing people in dreams mirroring Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund playing Victor, the jock leader being named Jason and stalking Eddie around a lake, when Jason delivers his speech it's playing a song called Psycho Killer. Now all we need is a Freddy (Vecna) vs. Jason. :P

I wrote this comment in another video: Vecnas power is really a metaphor for suicide. The reason he couldn’t stop Max from escaping is because she had the will to live despite the trauma because of the memories of her friends. Vecna’s victims so far unfortunately didn’t have the positive memories or friend group to pull them out. Although Vecna himself seems like a physical threat I don’t think he really is. The falling rocks and debris could be seen as a representation of the challenges a suicidal person has to go through to choose to live. For many suicidal people choosing to live is an incredibly difficult challenge. That’s why Max’s run for survival is so meaningful. Even though she has so much trauma and pain she still chooses to run to her friends. She runs with all she can back to the people who she loves.

Couldn't have said it better. The allegory for depression is incredibly powerful and hits me really hard. I love that sort of psychological horror where the villain is really just a manifestation of our own internal demons. Fantastic and meaningful in equal measures.
@Lilah18482 жыл бұрын
I agree. I saw it more as a metaphor for depression. Having been depressed before, you isolate yourself because you think you're a burden to other people, even though they tell you they are there, you just can't feel it. You feel nothing. You give up mentally until you make little steps to pull yourself out of it, which is what I feel Max did at the end. You have to remember that you and your life are worth fighting for.

That's the reason why she wrote letters, actually it's better than talking sometimes, writing helps people to focus on what they have to say, because sometimes it's complicated to find words and also it's frustrating when someone in front of you push you to talk, we don't wanna talk because seeing the reaction in front of us it's more painful and makes the brain difficult to handle.

In earlier episodes Lucas tells Max "it's like you're not even here anymore", in regards to how disconnected in all her trauma and grief she's become. This really adds an extra layer to the end of the last scene where Max is repeating "I'm still here", as it seems to illustrate her last minute escape, as not only managing to get away from Vecna, but as the moment she is making the decision she WANTS to stay and reconnect with people she loves. Ironic, that by preying on people's traumas Vecna unintentionally led to Max's breakthrough in dealing with hers.

This is honestly one of the most emotionally powerful episodes of tv I have ever seen. As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety my whole life I knew exactly what Max was thinking and feeling. Like you’ve fallen into a frozen lake, your strength starts to leave your body and you just want to stop fighting, sink and let the darkness take you. But then like with Max hearing her song and seeing the hole that will lead her back to her loved ones you yourself have to just look for where you fell through the ice, dig deep to find a strength that you never knew was there, swim to the surface, and drag yourself out of that cold dark and lonely place. Obviously I burst into tears of relief when the episode ended. To everyone else out there who feels like they are alone and in pain know this, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone.❤️❤️

Sadie really gave 120% for this episode. She'd written letters to everyone and resigned herself to her fate. She was so ready for Vecna to take her. To listen to the dark thoughts in her mind. The lyrics of the song, "I'd make a deal with God, and get him to swap our places" and Max thinking about Billy seems to imply she wishes he could be alive right now. Even if it meant she wouldn't be. But when she thinks about things that make her happy, her friends, all the wonderful memories she has, she decides to run. She decides to live.

She was beginning to accept death as an option and then she literally ran and fought for her life and her first words to say ' I'm still here'..... talk about tears 😭

One of the best episodes of the series, hands down. Sadie Sink gave on of the best performances. And having Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger himself, come and guest star added to how epic this episode was.

What’s soooo awesome is that Vecna is not cgi, all makeup and prosthetics

The Harry Potter reference also came to me when i watched that Maxine part in this episode. Remember his quote, "You're the weak one, because you'll never know love or friendship... and i feel sorry for you!"

Near the end of this episode, I was screaming at my TV like Dustin "ohmygodohmygodohmygod..." then RUNRUNRUN RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!!" When it went to black, my heart sank. Then the relief.

This episode is absolutely amazing. No matter how many times I see the end scene I always get emotional. Sadie Sink did such a great job, she's a phenomenal actress & definitely deserves an award for this episode.

Great job Nikki... I was literally talking to the screen at that moment going... do you two not know who that is.. and as soon as I said that... you mentioned it "Is that the actor who played Freddy Kruger?" I laughed my ass off... perfect timing I guess! lol... But yeah.. now you know.. it was him! Noticed when it first showed him.. he was scratching the desk with his finger nails... Robert said it was a subtle nod to Freddy fans!! It sure made me happy!! :)

In the Victor Krell scene I love how he is scratching the table like Freddy Kruger. Amazing. Also, because they were filiming in the height of the pandemic Darce Montgomery (Billy) had to shoot his scene in his native Australia. It looks so good.

Definitely the best episode of Stranger Thing’s. Really gave me some Conjuring Vibes with Victor & the ending set piece with Max was cherry on top of it all!

Finally getting to watch a reaction video in current time lol! I’ve wanted to comment on so many previous videos y’all have done , but I was always like 2 years behind 🤦🏼♀️🤣 Love you guys!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I feel like the thing that separated Max from the rest of Vecnas victims, is her having the benefit of friends who have already been involved with the supernatural world… the others had no one to talk to about it, bc they knew people would think they were crazy, so they stayed completely isolated and easy targets…. She appeared to be this way, bc she was isolating herself for a while… but once things really got crazy , she had her supernatural fighting buddies to help ❤️

Hey Nikki& Steve , Your reactions and comments for this episode had me so tuned in . I was feeling the tension and my shoulders were up around my ears. Ugh.... this was a tough one and it took me a minute to sigh relief at the end . This is definitely a new one on my favorites list and I am here for the journey . The whole scene with the New "house" for Victor's family added Nancy and Robin getting Victor to tell them what happened... that felt so crazy intense for me... the burning crib and baby screaming was Horrific . I agree with you both.... the Horror level for season 4 has catapulted from previous seasons ; this was already a brilliant series from the beginning but season 4 is Mind Blowing and I appreciate Everything you both bring to your channel and I am looking forward to more here .

I was waiting for your reaction of this episode. This was the best episode ever. This whole season has been amazing. Looking forward to your next review.
@abdou98882 жыл бұрын
I waited so much for this reaction, this episode was a banger, the twist in Russia, Victor Creel's creepy back story told by the one and only Robert Englund, the one shot scene in California, the peak ending with Max, where I genuinely thought she was a goner especially after leaving those letters, and god knows how much I love this character and the actress. This a high level season.

Personally I think the best TV show ever is The Wire, and I can’t imagine anything ever topping it. But yeah, Stranger Things is incredible. This episode in particular is one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life.

One of the best if not the best episode out of this season. The flashbacks with max and the group was absolutely gut wrenching, I teared up a bit. Such a great episode. 10/10

That scene with Max and Vecna is so beautiful. A band I saw in high school (Wild Nothing) covered another Kate Bush song from the same album and I loved her music since then. So glad they incorporated it the way they did with the cinematography. I can't get over it lol. ❤
