Valve is doing something different from CS:GO to CS2 with the visual settings. In CS:GO you were rewarded for turning all of the settings down to LOW. You were rewarded for this because you get both better PC performance AND simplified visuals. CS:GO had an approach to LOW visual settings that balanced against any competitive advantage of having a more powerful PC capable of running at HIGH visual settings. In CS2 the lowest settings (for some visual settings, not all) look like crap and if your computer can't handle the higher settings that's your problem. Valve are rewarding players for having better PC hardware, but like it or not, that is what must happen if they want the game be played competitively (where it gets a lot of public exposure) on HIGH settings.

Could be in a way. But there actually aren't too much competitive-edge video settings iirc. Ambient occlusion, MSAA, dynamic shadows and that should be it?

In csgo if you turned on shader and effect settings on high you would see better behind mollies. In cs2 all you need to have is dynamic shadows because ambient occlusion doesn't even work anymore and maybe high dynamic range on quality that's all. 99% of pro players still play on full low settings and only 2 necessary options on high same as in csgo just the options changed.
