Dapto's got a reputation for being a rough neighbourhood in Wollongong, very high crime, lots of muggings and drug use in particular. The reason it made those people freak out is because they were fairly certain that Niko, introducing himself as being from Dapto, was trying to rob them. Generally, that's one of the main reasons someone would say they were from Dapto unprompted
