We got a similar story here. I like what you accomplished, because I bought the 2016 F150 Lariat back in Dec 2016. About 2 months after a devastating Hurricane Harvey, I flew to Houston and picked up a water salvage titled 2016 F150 Lariat. Similar Water Line marked as yours too, running and driving. I witnessed over 100k vehicles in just one COPART lot... most were water logged. But hey, I could not be happier driving this dream machine back 1000 miles to South Carolina. Before driving tho, I found a professional shop to go over it like you did. Found no water damage under the carpet; so after $500 for oil change, detailed cleanup, waxed, engine shampoo, and new cabin air filter I happily drove home. Subsequently, this truck valiantly, reliably, and smoothly taken the family together (me, and Lily and a dog named Nina) all over the USA from South Carolina to Oak Harbor, Washington and back home to South Carolina. Recommend swapping your little radio out to the 8" touch screen with the Sync 4 software. It was amazingly easy on a F150, I did it on a 2018 F150.

You guys know what is required. Water can be terrible for corrosion. By the way, my wife spilled some milk on the back floor of a car back in 1978. She said not to worry because she got it all. . . . Well, the weather warmed up in Calgary. (We had a Chinook.) I drove to a church meeting one night with a friend and our eyes were burning because the milk had started to go bad. A friend who owned a dairy just on the outskirts of Calgary suggested, "Sell the car." . . . We took the backing off the carpet in the one rear carpet well. We used lots of baking soda and vinegar etc. I used new backing and I glued it onto the floor so it did not wander. We kept the car for 3 years and no more smell. By the way, our insurance adjuster said that they would cover the cost of new carpet but we saved some money. . . . End of story. 😊

It's not just milk that does this damage, any other food or drink! Soda, like Coke, if it stays on the carpet, it turns into a nasty, hard-to-clean slop! That if it doesn't leave stains, if it's clear!! A professional specializing in cleaning detailing would be great on this project!
@petermercer59682 жыл бұрын
I must remember that one.

I have had something like this happen, it can even happen in your hous, if you have carpet or rugs. I spilled my water on my rug the other day and couldn't get it out in time, so now I don't have a rug because it's outside getting washed!!

The body wash must be impeccable! Rear and front differential oil change (if 4x4), and application of corrosion protection liquid throughout the body and chassis interior. The electrical terminals have to be cleaned, don't just spray "contact cleaner"! You can recover the truck, but it will be a week's work!
@shanew32932 жыл бұрын
good job. Yes, spray crc contact cleaner on all those connections.

I liked what you did...step by step. When you get an influx of cash I strongly suggest you pour a concrete drive in front of the shop so work like this is not mudding up the ground and makes it easier to clean stuff actually on the concrete...back of carpet, etc...works easier when flat. Overall, ask 20k...then take 18 if need be.

Should have run it up the lift and checked everything underneath. Double checked the brake components, engine, tranny, u-joints exhaust system and differential. Dump the engine oil and transmission fluid to be on the safe side. Many vehicles down here in Florida got flooded. The ones on the coastal areas got salt water and I wouldn’t touch them. In the center of the state it was rain water flooding about like what you got here.
@CLINT21432 жыл бұрын
I agree. I would have taken off the door panels as well to check for debris and silt. Fords are prone to rust out there anyways much less when they have been through a flood.

@danielsteward50902 жыл бұрын
You got very lucky with this one. It basically only got maybe the carpet wet, and needed a detailing. Most of them need major cleanings and disassembly of drive motors and electronic modules that get destroyed from electrolysis because the battery was not disconnected immediately after it got wet. This is why water cars usually start malfunctioning soon after they are put back on the road. The seller does not do the preventative work on wet parts, they don't care or don't want to spend the money.

Great job Mike this F150 will make someone a great truck for a fair price! When you are in Florida watch for the two flooded Superbirds. I don't have any idea where they might be but I saw a newscast of them flooded out into the street but one off them didn't look that bad at all!

Tear it down all you want, however all the wiring connectors, etc. will start corroding. In addition you are required by law to advise the buyers it is a flood vehicle.
@timbriske59602 жыл бұрын
How about engine, transmission, differentials, plus electrical beneath the vehicle? If water was inside vehicle then everything beneath saw water. You may have checked oil stick but Trans had to be checked from underneath plus diffs. You lead people on by not being truthful about flood card
