It’s an interesting point that the Doctor pretty much always travels with contemporary Earth companions and I understand why, they’re meant to be the audiences avatar, but yes I’d like to see an historical companion too, and with an inventor who was ahead of his time it would make perfect sense too.

@@stephenking5852 Admittedly based mostly on watching youtube videos, the sounds and cadence of the South Slavic languages seem more similar to English than the other Slavic languages, and Serbs seem to on average not have too heavy of an accent in English. However, a lot of people these days sorta know English from childhood. Since Tesla probably didn't hear much English while he was growing up, he probably had a stronger accent than this, but idk

@@Lorkoification FYI, Nikola tesla himself is a Serbian born at Croatia and later became an American citizen to meet his rival, Thomas Edison. Legend has it, he's also a Venusian race who descended here from Earth during a stormy night and I've seen real article from the FBI documents. Those infos were authentic and has the credibility to prove that Tesla and his inventions are clearly out of this world. From his quote: "My brain is only a receiver, in the Universe there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength and inspiration. I have not penetrated into the secrets of this core, but I know that it exists.”

These two together made this episode. You can feel the mutual respect as two scientists who are in it for the love of the craft, and the genuine desire to better the world/universe around them, both constantly at odds with people and systems more interested in a profit, or exploiting genius. This was a great episode and these two carried it big time.

I know it's been mentioned elsewhere but I really think that the actor who played Nikola Tesla would make a perfect future Doctor. Just seeing him in the Tardis - he looks like he belongs there. He'd have to keep his moustache though. We haven't had a doctor with a moustache before except for maybe Peter Cushing I think, but he doesn't really count. So that keeps with the practise of diversity. And there's no reason that the Doctor has to be zany or eccentric. I remember when Peter Davison had the nigh on impossible task of taking over from the amazing Tom Baker. He played the role totally straight and despite some pretty dodgy scripts he increased the viewership significantly over Tom's final season.

Such an amazing episode! There was so much charm and interesting facts about the inventors themselves, as well as great monsters too (They might as well be related to the Racnoss in some way, they are very similar after all) I thought the episode was beautifully written. Actually the best story of the Whittaker era. A good mix of historic and sci-fi elements. An underlying statement about 'business versus ideas' but not preachy and in your face like all previous episodes. Nicely done and an example of what Dr Who should be about. Not sure about the 'monster' though. Some may say it is possibly another race of Racnoss but there was no reference to the Racnoss to make that link. I am actually going to vote for Goran Višnjić to be the next doctor... just putting it out there.

OK, This is going to be a bit longer. 😁📏 I have to say something and there will be a bit of criticism, so I'm sorry. 😅 But criticism is also very important. 🙂 I think, that this episode was the best in 12th series yet. I also really enjoyed Spy Fall. But this one has the *right atmosphere and really great characters.* There is a great chemistry between Nikola Tesla actor and Jodie, worked out really great! Also the whole idea about episode with Tesla and Edison was excellent. *Orphan 55* on the other hand had a very promising beginning. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the humor, soundtrack. But it went down shortly after. I don't know. It didn't have the right vibe. I should have feel worried about the characters or feel scared of the monsters, like I was in the previous seasons, but I didn't. I felt no tense, it was chaotic, no straight story line. The message in the end also did not have the right effect and was not necessary. I am sorry to say that, but It felt like the viewer is a child who did something bad. :D Don't get me wrong. I mean I'm enjoying new series. Even the music. The problem is, it's so different since the 11th season. Sometimes new Doctor Who feels more like a spin-off rather than new Doctor Who. New atmosphere of Doctor who is great. But the style, story telling, camera cuts (Bit chaotic sometimes, that disrupts the viewer's ability to dive into the story), or even the color filters, that are trying to make movie-like effect. This all can look cool and modern, but just like the interior of the house, the old one can feel much more comfy, than the modern sterile black and white. That's why we are using some of the older design elements today again. And that's the new Doctor Who. It's trying to look cool and modern and fast and intense, but is not that pleasant and re-watchable like the old ones. I just started re-watching Doctor Who with Eccleston and David Tennant and I realized, how different the show now is and how much more pleasant and nice to watch it was. To watch the older style of filming. *When they focused to the characters, their development and their feelings and companions with the backstory. Companions, that helped Doctor to stay being Doctor. To be always kind.* There were slower camera shots and the details to the story itself or the soundtracks and the whole atmosphere of it, rather than fast action and action. Those episodes can be very easily re-watched. The stories were like something from the dream back then. The stories made us laugh, it made us cry. But I loved this episode. Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror somehow had that feeling again. Thank you very much for that and I am looking forward for more episodes like this. Wishing you very best, Doctor Who fan :)

Things that have improved: Budget Quality of cgi Things that have got worse: Acting Writing Cinematography Colour palette Monster design Character development The show is failing in the most important aspects. Ever aince Chibnall took over, the series has became terrible. Moffat started to slowly kill the show with Capaldi's era but Chibnall confirmed the kill. The thing is, Jodie's era has no distinctive qualities. Eccleston, Tennant, Smth and Capaldi were all different in their own way but still felt like modern Doctor Who with fast paced music, fast paced action scenes and when they needed to create emotional key moments they absolutely nailed it. Now, they lack any of that. The camera work is amateurish and bland. Scenes come off weak simply because of the fact that they use standard cut-to-face shots. The acting from 80% of the cast is terrible and wooden. The writing team is not doing a good job of developing personality because they lack any sort of interesting character traits and don't seem to have much use in most of the episodes. Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy and Clara within her first season were far better companions because they were essential to the story, had distinctive personalities and were much better acted. The companions now are just sort of there just because they can be but so far have just made the episodes drag despite their short runtime. I understand they are trying to bring Doctor Who back to its classic roots but the thing they are forgetting is that this is 2020. It is not 1963 when film was much different. Doctor Who has been a successful show for years. There is no reason to bring the classic vibes back because they are simply outdated and will not dictate the success of the show.

But never showed THE STORY until on “Doctor Who” which he met the 13th Doctor/the group! If only Tesla was made as a companion, it would be a change and actually really nice. The writers could pull it off by simply *"Taking Tesla near the end of his timestream where he dies penniless, along with Ada Lovelace, and go on adventures together with the doctor and show him the wonders of the universe"* and that type of stuff, seems fun. Edit: Now that I realize this, if Tesla were to become a companion in the 13th season, the final season for the 13th doctor, it WOULD DEFINITELY be a spectacle to see Tesla's reaction to the doctor regenerating. Thinking about Tesla being fascinated by Time Lord Biology and the whole Time Lord society as a whole makes me happy.

This is the type of ep we want to see. NO preaching, NO social justice, The Doctor had to put up an effort, BUT there needs to be character development.

kind of wish people would just give the director and Jodie some time to grow into the show. It is not easy to fill the shoes of the previous cast. They have to put up with lots of criticism. We only can show quality feedback and hope they listen.

Could've made him a companion and he could've had a Doctor Donna type moment before he is returned to his time. Then that's the in universe explanation for his later life 'madness' which historically you can see the causes of now. He was pressured and in a time he wouldn't be fully accepted. We're still learning today what he figured out then. I mean to think of scaled up broadcast energy amd what we could do. Yes, death lasers from the sky could happen, so could an invisible wall that destroys any incoming misses before they land without need of the massive anti air arrays we use. Think of the iron dome but as a laser show. Anything limited by battery size could be built with only a minimal backup source in case you're in a wireless dead zone.

I wish the directors told Jodie to tone down the bobbing about and constant gesturing during most scenes. Matt was a genius at where to stop all that and stay his ground. Also, im sorry but the sonic is more of a magic wand than ever before

Its all an act. When sh is alone she doesn't do that. See Spyfall where she is much more Stoic when she sees Galifrey, and when she tells the companions who she is.
