His beautiful, heart wrenching Rach 3 brought me here. Here again, the Rachmaninov sounds completely different from what I am used to hear, the ones that are heavy, muddy, nonsensical rambling that I cannot understand. In this Mr. Khozyainov’s rendition, there are melodies, harmonies, and rhythms that I can hear and understand, and 40 minutes pass like it didn’t happen. Hats off to his musical conviction and imagination that are not influenced by all others! He gives me hope that classical music is not over. One day I hope I will get to hear him live.
