This video is going over the layout of the Nikon A1000. This is to help those who have purchased the camera, either to introduce them to the buttons and doors, or for someone who has already had the camera but needed a reminder. The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available settings and features!
If you have questions I did not answer, please let me know in the comments below!

I loved (and still do) My DSL cameras but found them bulky and a pain in A$$ on vacations and other outings, parties etc. I Decided on this Camera and while not perfect it does a pretty good job. Thanks for the Video overview, very helpful

One thing you left out is the ability to zoom/crop and save as a new photo and it retains the original photo right on the camera. I looked at many cameras this size but none had this feature. I have this and several other Nikons and they all have this feature. Unless you have a camera that does it, you don’t know what you’re missing!

I noticed in manual shooting mode the viewfinder and the lcd screen both do not show the picture as you are about to shoot it. The camera shows you the "ideal" photo but not the one you are about to take based on the setting you have entered. When you take the shot and review it you see that its actually way too dark or way too bright. Adjusting the shutter speed, iso, etc doesn't change what you see before you take the photo so no way to know what that photo will look like. This is understandable in Auto modes, but in manual mode it becomes impossible to know what affect the changes have. Is there a way to turn this off?

I believe with this model, it should give you a sample of what the exposure should be when you hold your shutter button down half way. It’s hard to say as this camera was developed before Nikon developed their mirrorless technology and dialed in the “what you see is what you get” sensor communication to your LCD/Viewfinder. So if the shutter button doesn’t help, it will be more so like a DSLR where you will have to do test shots to achieve the perfect exposure manually.

I just filmed a video & the background kind of looks like theres grainy noise. Any advice on what setting to tweak?
@Shutterbug101
@Shutterbug101 2 жыл бұрын
Adjust your ISO settings to lower numbered options, between 100 and 800 at the most to avoid visual noise. If the video is too dark, you will need to add more light physically to the subject/area

Just bought an A1000 to replace my S9900 which I loved. The A1000 lens rattles when extended or retracted and there is no cover on the back of the display. Overall, it feels cheaper than the S9900 even though it costs twice as much.
@Shutterbug101
@Shutterbug101 2 жыл бұрын
The lens definitely should not rattle. While Nikon and Canon point and shoots have gone downhill in quality over time, it definitely shouldn't rattle. I would take it back to where you purchased it just in case, and I would also recommend looking at the Panasonic ZS80. Panasonic has done very well in the point and shoot area. While they aren't making any point and shoots pocket sized that have the articulating screen at this time, you can always put a protective screen to prevent from scratching like you would your cell phone.

The tripod mount isn't for balance, it's done like this to give access to the battery door when the camera is mounted. It's so small that balance isn't affected.

Does the camera have lens accessories? Because i find out sony zv-1 does have lens accessories called ulanzi wl-1 So i thought it would be good to have one
@Shutterbug101
@Shutterbug101 2 жыл бұрын
The WL1 attachment is not a Sony product, so in Sony’s opinion it does not have accessories. In fact, it isn’t recommended as putting any extra weight on the front of a camera with an extending lens can cause stress on the motor and cause errors and damage. Short answer, no there are no accessories for the Nikon

How do you update the firmware? Ohhh I hope it's easy? I just got this camera last week. Thanks so much.
@Shutterbug101
@Shutterbug101 4 жыл бұрын
You will want to go to NikonUSA.com where you can look up the model of camera you have and make sure the firmware number matches what is on your camera. If it isn't, you will want to make sure your camera battery is fully charged and follow directions on the page where the firmware is displayed on the site, step by step. Because its a point and shoot, there may not be firmware updates often so you dont have to check more than once a year or so. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Unfortunately, it does require a computer. However, if you purchased it from a store, they should offer firmware upgrades and should be able to fo it for you. If you purchased online, I would say look up to see if there is a store near you. Either way, though, its rare you will find theres a firmware upgrade for point and shoot cameras, so I wouldnt worry about it too much!

@@Shutterbug101 You don't understand. I already looked up my camera on their site and there IS an upgrade already waiting for it. B&H Photo only has one location. I live far away, (no car, am poor/on fixed, limited, income), so shop with their app.

I see! I know when it comes to camera stores, there are not as many around anymore. The best advice I can offer is to contact Nikon through their website and see if there's any way they can assist. You may be able to send it to them and have Nikon do it themselves, but I understand if you don't want to go without your new camera. Sorry I cannot help more!

Hello, new subscriber here 😊 I have a question, would you recommend this compact camera? Which of these cameras has a better picture quality, zoom range, bokeh and video quality? Nikon Coolpix A1000, Canon PowerShot SX740 HS, Panasonic Lumix TZ95 or Sony Cyber shot HX80/HX99? Is there any compact zoom camera which is better that I didn't mention? Hope you'll reply. Thank you soon much! 😊

I would say to get the best quality all around the Panasonic TZ95 is going to be the closest match! That is my personal experience. I find that Panasonic and Sony have excelled in point and shoots while Nikon and Canon release basic models.

Great posting. Do you think it's good video? Would the files be easy to down load to KZbin?
@Shutterbug101

I think the video is decent, ideal for those filming family events. For quality video to youtube, I recommend at least a 1 inch sensor to be prepared for low lighting situations and a camera that offers stabilization. Check out my Panasonic ZS200 walkthrough, I think that would be a better match in this situation.

1need more info on the creative menu. What are the black and white options? The p310 allows black and white with red, yellow, green filters... Is that available here? Is selective color available like on the p310? On video, when would you use a particular frame per second setting? Are creative filters available in movie mode? Thanks.
@Shutterbug101
@Shutterbug101 Жыл бұрын
I do not see an option for filters within black and white, but there should be adjustments you can still make in camera to help customize a filter. Selective color is still an option on this model. For video, remember frames are like pages to a flip book. The more pages you have per second of flipping, the smoother it looks especially if you ever want to slow down your video. BUT! The more frames, the less light intake. Creative filters should be accessible when doing video, but there may be more limitations.

@@Shutterbug101 Thx for responding!!:) It's a super cool feature where you download free custom profiles of nostalgic film settings etc..., then transfer to your memory card. Then place that card in camera and some nikon's let you upload that profile to your camera in the picture control section. The Nikon v3 I have has the ability which I love, but in one of my older coolpix cameras ( p7800), I cannot.
@Shutterbug101

It doesn't look like Nikon created those presets to be downloaded, it looks to be a third party that played with the picture controls avaliable and made it so it was downloadable. So I am unsure if the A1000 will be able to take the files, unfortunately, especially considering software gets more and more advanced they could have made it so it blocked any way to download, but I could be wrong. Sorry I couldnt be more help in this situation!
