Not a good vlogging camera, but not EVERYONE wants to vlog, or shoot selfies. For someone interested in starting out in photography from behind the camera, this looks like a great beginner camera and gateway into the interchangable lens world. Connecting to snapbridge was easy for me. I connected through Bluetooth. Great review though, I don’t use it for video very much because it doesn’t have a mic port. But I thought the quality was pretty good overall. I do have a canon SL2 as well and it works better for video. The kit lens for the Nikon D3500 is fabulous, but I upgraded to a Nikkor AF-S 50mm f1.8 lens to take portraits and it’s incredible!

I used to fume over SnapBridge. I have no idea why, but all my frustrations with it stopped, maybe a year ago? Before that I would have a terrible time connecting to it. Now it’s always connected. 🤷‍♂️

I got the d3500 to pair in bluetooth and i remember it being a nightmare, till i figured it out it was actually easy. I forgot entirely what I did because the unnecessary frustration it brought made me forget what I did.

As a stills shooter, I think this is a great camera. The images this camera can give you are astounding for the price of the camera. The 24 megapixel sensor is a really nice balance between file detail and storage size. The screen isn’t touch sensitive but it’s not hard to use either. The viewfinder is bright and you’re using the speed of light other than refresh rates on electronic view finders. Focus is pretty fast in most situations so you can get that shot. The camera being Nikon F mount has a huge array of different lenses that can be used on it, although not the older ones from back in the day. The various “modes” will give you really good results for specific scenes. Although I think the Nikon D5600 is the greatest camera ever made mainly because of it’s low cost and rich feature set none-the-less the D3500 is no slouch either and is even cheaper again. The DX lenses are much cheaper than the Full Frame equivalents. A Professional camera is going to enable much more flexibility in shooting and cost you large sums of money but for most shots you really only need the D3500 and you can save a lot of money using it.

I had previously purchased this camera for taking photos. love it. After this Covid thing started my wife has been plaining on making yoga Videos to post online and live streaming classes. I have read online that recording long videos with a DSLR can cause damage to the camera. Is it in my best interest to buy a different cam or is d3500 capible of shooting for 45min to an Hr? Thanks

I have this camera and the auto focus is decent but you have to really learn the camera and know Aperture, shutter and iso and learn what everything does to really get the best use out of it and it is good for all types of photography and it really depends on the lens you have too

I have one of these and like it a lot. This is a good video for new D3500 users. There are a couple of dislikes for me. Biggest one is I miss the “fn” button my old D40 has. I use it for ISO on my D40. But aside from that, if you get a D3500 you will likely need happy.

I just got mine yesterday and had two failed attempts at connecting to my iPhone via SnapBridge, but was finally successful...I don’t recall how as I was checking a few settings and making changes at the same time. I found this video useful, decades ago I used an N70 that I adored (still have it), then 12 years ago I wanted the D70, but was gifted a D40 instead. The D40 is great but I thought it was time to upgrade. I love taking nature and animal photos, so this should work really well. I’m going to enjoy playing around and learning the nuances.

You make the point that you have to use the viewfinder in order to effectively take a photograph. For me personally this would not pose much of a problem as I am a bit of a traditionalist and much prefer to use the viewfinder anyway. Thank you for your comprehensive review.

SnapBridge worked for me, but it took an extremely long time to transfer the pictures over and it lowered the quality of the pictures. You’re better off just waiting until you can put the SD card in a computer.

Still contented with the d3300 because of the mic input you have the option to record good audio with it. Its strange why does nikon remove the mic input option of the higher entry level model camera.

Wouldn't recommend it for that. As most Nikon entry cameras Videos is not its strong side, for that Canon or Sony might be the better choice. When it comes down to photography it absolutly shines

(1) Not for vlogging. (2) Anyone from age 1 to 100 can use it if they learn how to use it. If confusion arises from the various settings, just set the camera to auto mode.

@@MAWY119 It was simply a case of following the instructions. Switch on bluetooth, find the camera and pair it. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue with your phone.Mine is a Moto G6 Play and it worked first time.

You also need a good book and a quite fast SD memory card for video and a card reader to go with it. There are so many options which you will want to understand later on. I bought "Nikon D3500 for dummies." It is a well written book but in English. And you need a good head for detail if you want to understand this capable 'beginners plus' camera. Amazon UK had it for only 314 UK pounds, including the basic kit lens with 18-55mm, VR stabilisation, etc. and UK shipping. Good purchase. An excellent camera and lens for the price.

i'm also buying it for travel to document my move from the US to SE Asia and the local lifestyle, and it looks like the best choice for me. it is one of the most affordable cameras that i could find for the quality. it was initially recommended to me as a video camera. i dont plan on vlogging myself, just my surroundings, and i am not very concerned about sound as i expect to put music over most of my video.

Don't really rely on KZbinrs, it's all about your own experience and skills to go around problems. The screen should be fine, you can connect your phone too.

You need to get the micro SD card and adapter. Take card out of camera and put it in your phone. I'm sorry but that's the only way I can think of getting video to a device. I put video on a laptop then upload to youtube.

Nancy La nothing is wrong with the camera, you have to try the older version of the app, I had the same problem so I looked on the App Store, problem solved
