Tony & Chelsea Northrup would the Lightroom and photoshop books both be for current programs downloaded (versions) I don't have the programs but if I get them and then these books would it be effective for that exact version?

Yes, they're both for the CC versions of the program which are updated regularly.

There are so many videos on youtube now trying too hard. They all seem to be all cinematic and more of a "check out my editing skills and cinematic music". This one is just straight to the facts, no long intro, no video and music interludes. Just a guy getting straight in to the details. Thank you.

Thank you for this video! 5 years later and I just now got one. At 13:00, the comments say "When it's wide open like that" but the image is a small aperture, then "When it's small like that" the aperture is wide open. I really appreciate this video. It isn't full of fluff and filler, but has very useful information on one specific camera. I also like the suggestions on the lenses as the video draws to a close.

Thank you Tony. This video is 6 years old and I am a TOTAL novice at 62 and my daughter has interests in Photography. I have always had a D50 since 2005 and I am diving in with my daughter with the D500 for me D7100 for her. This video sealed the deal on "who" I admire most regarding tutorials from this day forward. Yes I have seen you here and there for quite some time however this particular video is extremely important because you are able to connect with me a novice amature while delivering important information in a manner that makes me look forward to more. fact/ I do not link to other sites after watching KZbin stuff yet I am certain you have just become an exception that if you have books or tutorials out there, I will find them and purchase them because of this video you so kindly give us works for me. It is important to hold the attention keeping it fun at the same time keeping me anticipating more. I like that. great job Tony as I am only 19 minutes into this video and paused to write this. I feel like a kid now at xmas waiting to buy the D500 I have an eye on that I was certain I could NOT use ...that uncertainty has vanished.

I sent you guys a Tweet but I had to say something here also. I received the vertical grip you describe at 1:11:11 on Thursday and it just looks, fits and works perfectly. It would IMHO be very hard to tell that it is not a Nikon item! It is now just $68.86 and with an amazon Prime membership the 2 day shipping was free. Thanks for pointing this item out and even though I have been a long time Nikon shooter (began with the D1) I think that they have some GD nerve charging almost $400.00 bucks for this!

I just picked up the Pixel Vertax Vertical Grip for my D500 last week. A great investment. Instead of paying for a bunch of those ENEL15 batteries, I picked up a set of rechargeable AAs for under $20 and it really adds a lot of life. I do a lot of timelapses, so the need for me to be able to keep the camera running without touching it to remove and replace batteries is essential and that battery grip rocks.
@TRobBrownPhotography2 жыл бұрын
The reason you don't usually need the white balance corrections, is because you're typically shooting in raw, which is not color processed. White balance applies to JPG files or TIFF files where color is processed by the camera rather than later on raw import. The same applies to high ISO noise reduction... it doesn't apply to the raw files (you select it later when you import the raw images into Photoshop and/or Lightroom); that reduction applies to JPG or TIFF files.

Tony, @ 28:57 you press the focus mode button, but, by setting "release button to turn dial" to ON you can let the button go, then adjust the settings more comfortably, BEST tip for Nikon users, especially if people have dexterity issues or arthritis, saves a lot of contortion of hands, etc.

Just got a D500, so this was pretty helpful stuff. I always like Tony Northrop's stuff. However, I would like to make a comment on Custom settings banks on the camera. If you choose one of the banks, and set the "Image quality", "ISO sensitivity settings", "Active D-Lighting" and so on, and turn the camera off, those settings are retained for that bank. I photograph sport horses, at which time I turn off "Vignette control", "Auto ISO", "Auto distortion" and so on, and keep those settings in a camera bank I call Sport. Shortly after shooting a performance, I could be taking snapshots of riders with coaches, where I would be using "Vignette control" "Auto ISO" and so on, so I store those settings in a bank called Snapshots. So, I do find menu banks useful.

Very nice walkthrough of the features on the D500. I will take issue with you though when you say there really isn't anything comparable to Lightroom. I used it for years, but it cannot hold a candle to Capture One. That's not an opinion. It's just fact. Not even a close comparison. If you're looking for opinions, then we could talk Photoshop. I used it from 1.0 until the latest CC, but recently switched to Affinity Photo because it (in my opinion) has surpassed PS. I'm sure not everyone would agree with me on that, but I do think everyone who learned and used Capture One would agree it blows Lightroom totally out of the game. At any rate, I like and appreciate your videos and thank you for them.

Good informative video, thank you. I use a Nikkor 300mm f4 PF VR + Nikon 1.4 TC 111 with my D500 for wildlife. This combination is incredibly lightweight but provides excellent results. The D500 is brilliant. It is my first Nikon and I am thoroughly impressed (I have owned 7 Canon cameras and 4 Olympus in the past). Just love the 300mm PF VR as well. This combination perfectly compliments my Olympus EM1 system.

The D500 along with the Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 is also a great combination for wildlife
@klackon18 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have read as much, but thank you for highlighting it. The problem for me is the weight - hence my choice of Olympus EM1's for my main system and the 300mm PF for my D500. I considered the Nikkor 80 - 400mm VR 11, as it is about the same weight as my Olympus 300mm f4 PRO, but I've been advised by owners of that lens not to use it with a 1.4 TC 111. I may well end up with a 200 - 500mm + 1.4 TC 111 for the extra reach I require at one of my favourite locations.
