I won't be directly comparing them as the 450D / XSi is aimed at a slightly higher-end market than the D60, but you can see how each compares in the verdict pages of each review at the Cameralabs website.

I don't know where you're based, but if you go to our D40x review at the Cameralabs site, you'll find lists of shops selling it in the US and UK. Beware though, the D40x does not normally come with the VR version of the lens.

Shutter priority will automatically adjust the aperture, but if the aperture is already at its maximum setting, that's as far as it can go. So it sounds like your shutter speed is too fast for the available light. Try reducing it or increasing the ISO until the f-number stops flashing. Feel free to discuss this furtherin the dslrtips section in the forum at cameralabs . com...

If the planes are at a distance and are kept roughly in the middle of the frame, then the D60's 3-point AF should be fine - I'd say the bigger issue is getting the right lens. Feel free to post on the Cameralabs forums if you'd like to discuss it further.

No, the only DSLRs which currently offer video recording are the Nikon D90 and Canon 5D Mark II.

You can't - it doesn't have live view, so you have to use the optical viewfinder to compose. If you want a Nikon with live view, the cheapest is the D90. Alternatively consider something like the Canon 1000D / Rebel XS.

Great review! I've been researching DSLR camera's for some time now, and I have decided that the D60 is the best one for me. I am only fourteen but I have big ambitions for photography and I'am fed up with just using my phone! Can't wait! At 2.13 you took a series of photos, I was wondering if this is on any specific setting or if you just hold down the shutter release button for whatever length of time? Thank you!

It sounds like the camera;s autofocus system is getting confused and 'hunting' for the subject. I'd recommend either pointint it at something easier to focus on, increasing the surrounding light, or simply switching the lens to manual focus and manually focus it instead. The D60 won't improve this.
@cameralabs15 жыл бұрын
The XSi is better-featured, for example, 9-point AF, live view, 12 mpixels, no restrictions when autofocusing with older lenses... Check out my verdict page on my 450D / XSi review at cameralabs . com to compare them...
@vbrad2616 жыл бұрын
even though this camera only has 3 point auto focus would that still be good enough to shoot cars on motion and other action shots?

The cameras aren't free. Like all professional magazines and websites, products are loaned for a test period, then returned to the manufacturer. I've also been doing this for over 15 years and if I only ever said good things abaout every product I'd be out of a job.

Only you can answer that! People got on fine without it for many years, but then people got on without all technological luxuries at some point! I know I find it very useful, but I do a lot of technical photography - see my Canon 40D astrophotography video for an application for live view...

Technically the D60 is more equal to the sony A200. Sonys also have the kind of picture processing that the nikons have, also, nikon generally use sony sensors and other parts. So......I would say the A300 is better as it utilises more points on the focusing system, and live view if you really want it.

Hi im looking for a dslr and have seen a d60 2nd hand locally with 18-55 lense for £200. I know extremely little about dslr's but would love to learn more so i have a few questions, Is there a fully auto point and shoot mode to use until i get to grips with it? and is it a good choice of starter? I will be taking it to florida later this year and i was a little dissapointed with the shots i could get with my compact last time especially at low light with light in the far background.

It's ok, but 5fps would be better - toruble is, DSLRs with more than 3 or 3.5fps can get expensive. One of the 'cheaper' current models is the Canon 40D which has 6.5fps. Feel free to discuss this further in the cameralabs . com forum.
