Nice compare. I bought the D7100 right after the D7200 came out as the price dropped by one third and feel I made the right choice. For the way I shoot, the D7200 would not have been a good upgrade for me. I can't wait to see where Nikon takes this model run!

the D7100 has much more detail resolution than the 7200, the 7200 may be slightly cleaner at higher ISO but to my eye the detail is far superior with the 7100

Agreed. Particularly the deeper shadow detail on the D7100! Nikon appears to have shifted the dynamic range on the D7200 in order to 'allow' using higher ISOs (which look awful btw).

I will keep the D7200, I love this Camera and like the DX Crop factor for shooting at a longer distance than a FX factor.. I do use a lot of the FX lenses on this Camera such as the Nikon F/2.8 80-200mm and the Nikon F/2.8 24-70mm.. For wild life and long distance the Tamron 150-600mm. If I were to upgrade again I would go with the Nikon D810 over the D750, Keep my D7200 all the lenses I have purchased will be interchangeable with both Cameras..

i dont think id bother with the D500 looking at the reviews ive seen of it - id save for the d750 or go for the d7200! Ive just decided to fork out the 300 pounds quoted to repair my d7000 and its great to have it working again, its been a great camera which has been an upgrade from the d90, so the D7200 has specs that i find really enticing too. but im going to upgrade eventually to the d750 or d810...id love to have the d7200 but had to decide whether to pay out for the d7000 and a waste to dump it, couldnt have traded it in either the state it was in.

Excellent this review, I believe that the big difference between the two models is in the increased capacity of the ISO in the d7200 up to 25600 and also in the image quality due to the better processor. In high and low lights it is very noticeable. thanks.

The lack of Live View aperture control is honestly a killer for me personally. I can just about live with not having an articulating screen but this is honestly so infuriating that it's such a process to change aperture during video. It's a shame too because I really wanted to get a Nikon but for general usability I've been pushed to look at Canon cameras instead despite their slightly inferior image quality

You missed a massive point. The D7200 is much WORSE than the D7100 at low ISO. The SNR firmware on the 7200 is optimised for high ISO but the drawback is noise and bad dynamic range at low ISOs. If you are a landscape, or studio shooter, or use a tripod, and shoot at ISO 100-320, the D7100 is not only cheaper, it is BETTER. Image quality wise anyway.

Most amateur film-makers prefer using a DSLR for filming rather than a "video camera". Wanna know why? Cause it's better for the job. So it's a valid complaint.
@Nimesus
@Nimesus 7 жыл бұрын
It's not 'better for the job' than a 3 chip dedicated video camera. That's just silliness. *BUT* it's waaaaaaaay cheaper!

Hello! :) Welcome to the wonderful world of photography! If you are just starting out, I would start with a lower generation. I've had a Nikon D3200 for about 5 years. Its my baby. Its a great camera to start off with. I would go that route and you can stay within your budget even if you buy a lens for it. It will most likely come with an 18-55mm (kit lens) but you might want to go ahead and buy some extra glass given your budget vs. the price of a 3200 now. Or if you prefer, you might even go as far as a 5500. Also a great camera to start out with.

Get a factory refurb D7100 then you can use *ALL* the 'old' Nikon lens while retaining autofocus capabilities. None of the D3xxx or D5xxx (which I had) can do this. Some of the 'old' lenses are rock star good, better built than the AF-S series you're *forced* to buy if using D3xxx or D5xxx Nikon's. Don't learn the hard way as I did.

Harmanjit singh Khehra Sony is not a camera company. Their 'service' is horrible, lens selection pitiful. I would highly recommend sticking with camera companies. If it's Nikon you choose I can not recommend the D7100 highly enough in the APSC world. Best of luck my friend.

+rabi shrestha If you have never owned a dslr before the D7100 is going to prove very complicated for you. I would buy a used D5100 for $200 to learn on... then move up next year.

i wouldnt get the D7100 when theres the D7200 but i agree with brianminkc that if youve not used a dslr before thats also a good reason not to start with the D7000 range - though you still could do, the D7000 works fine on automatic and then you can find a course to learn as a beginner. the D90 is excellent too - ive seen them going at low prices on amazon.co.uk recently. but i know photographers who get great results from the D3300 and yes the D5100 but have a read around at reviews. if youve got the money the Nikon 18-300mm is a fantastic lens

+rabi shrestha Get the 7100 is way cheaper, you can always learn on the fly and you already have a good camera if you wanna buy old lenses later on; if you get d3000 or d5000 series you will eventually upgrade and if you dont like photography no more, the d7100 hold its value way better.

Why the D7200 is better than the D7100? A. Bigger Dynamic Range...14.6 vs 13.7 B. just a little bit more resolution...24.5 vs 24.2 C. As mention in the video faster AF and faster everything because of the new processor. If video is your thing, this is not the camera you're looking for. www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Nikon-D7200-versus-Nikon-D7100-versus-Nikon-D7000___1020_865_680

Exactly, I feel like MW Technology should rethink his approach on reviews, I feel like he has way too much bias. His tests are not very good, when comparing iso he doesn't do a good job to show the side by side and sometimes doesn't even show the other camera's performance all together. I also wish to mention all of his other previous videos. He also does not factor pricing, date of release, etc.
