I always use single point center focus in the optical viewfinder, so the other focus points don’t matter to me. In LiveView, I use either eye point focus or tap to focus. This is a remarkable camera that gives me a quantum upgrade from my D7100 in many respects. Glad I waited.

It’s a great camera and gives you the best of both worlds. Not too bothered about the lack of a joystick as the OVF uses a very small field of focus points. For me the only time I find myself wanting to use live view is when using at low angles, so very happy about the abilities. Great work Nikon, best of both worlds 👍👍

I love and appreciate your intelligent review of this camera. . .BUT all of the "hip and cool" reviewers have already ridiculed it and made fun of anyone who would want to use it and especially if they want to use some of their older F-mount lenses. They say all of those lenses "suck" and there is no reason for another DSLR. I'm REALLY tired of all the hate and ridicule that passes for intelligent analysis these days. . .I respect your sensible approach. . .THANKS!

I just bought a D7500 at the start of the year - super happy with it, this will be my next upgrade. Hopefully the price will drop by then. Sorry mirrorless, I'm just not that into you. Great video sir!

Thanks for sharing... just watched the video & impressed with the D780....I use a D500 & very happy so if I upgrade in the future I would consider D780 instead of going mirrorless...I am only a hobbyist so the lenses I have can fit the D780 without a problem... cheers 😀

Camera Exchange thoughts on this vs the Fuji X-T3? Totally different I know but I’m attracted to dslr for whatever reason
@camera-exchange4 жыл бұрын
@@ericrjennings Good question, depends on your path with the camera honestly. They are really really good cameras for both photography and videography. So I think it really comes down to size and feel of the cameras. If you're looking for something that is a bit tactile then I go with the x-t3 the feel and the colors that you get right out of the camera are amazing. You can miss the full frame in the d780 and the grip, you'll have a better handle on it as well. That's a hard choice, I've (vince) have personally shot with a fuji and absolutely love it BUT the d780 is a really good contender. Which ever one you chose, you will NOT be disappointed.

$2K + for old tech. A73 is $1800. Old Nikon heads should buy used 750 or 810/50. This not worth it in 2020 for the price. A good starting price would have been $1300. Nikon are not getting it.
@clemfandango95344 жыл бұрын
Steves Vanderpool No - I totally disagree. And I have the A73 and there is a lot wrong with that camera- build quality , handling and UI are all sub par compared to my D850. So this new D780 makes a lot of sense IMO
@stevesvanderpool86534 жыл бұрын
@@clemfandango9534 I totally get your point of view and I too have major gripes with Sony A73 ergonomics, UI (Not the size though 👌) But as a fellow A73 owner you know you are getting tech in that little body. I was a hold out right until these joke of a Z6 and Z7. I am not at all happy with their pre I-phone menu system but the tech keeps me more than happy. 2.3K and not have IBIS. Mount system is on its way out. Don't get me wrong it's a great camera 3 or 4 years ago. If one is invested in Nikon maybe and have 2.3K to drop on a yesteryear DSLR in 2020 God bless you. I'll stick with D700, 500, 3200 and cherish the memories they helped me capture.
@clemfandango95344 жыл бұрын
Steves Vanderpool I can see your point of view but I would counter that Sony IBIS is not very good - it’s a couple of stops at best. Use a VR lens on the D780 and there will be little difference. Tamron makes VR primes for NAF so that’s covered too. There is just as much tech in the D780 body as the A73 plus much greater lens availability at better prices, better build quality, better video than Sony ( Nikon 10 bit vs 8 bit from Sony ) , better UI and on top of that USB charging for a battery thats lasts for 2000 shots. Sony cannot compete with that - I rarely use my A73 ( I have Panny S1R too ) so the D780 is definitely my next purchase so I can use all the Nikon lenses I collected over the years. Happy shooting and good light 👍🙂

"Old Tech". . ."New Tech". . .C'mon man, just STOP with the ridicule. All that REALLY matters is the end result. . .The image you end up with. Are you telling me that If I go out with a D780 I will not be able to come back with photos as good as those you might take with your "new tech" camera??? Because if you are you couldn't be more wrong. I'd be willing to bet that I have as much talent and artistic ability as you, and can match or better your results with whatever camera I choose to use. The end result is what I care about, and the ability of the person using the camera is the MOST important ingredient. And even a camera you call "old tech" like a D780 is a wonderfully capable tool. I just wish people would stop with the ridicule. . .Why does anyone care what "tool" I use? Why don't people care more about the end result? It's as if they think there were never any great photos taken until mirrorless came along. All photos up to that point weren't any good because they weren't shot with a mirrorless camera. Now don't get me wrong, when mirrorless advances to the point that I think it's worth the cost I'll get one. But until then, I'll still be quite capable of getting excellent results with the camera and lenses that I currently can afford, and could likewise do the same with a D780 if I had one. Oh, and as far as "old tech" goes. . .The D780 has essentially the same back-side illuminated sensor as the Z6, and from what I've seen the D780 performs very well in low light. And the price will come down, as it always does. And you know, I've NEVER had someone look at one of my photos and say, "I love that shot, the composition, colors and lighting.. .BUT did you shoot that with a mirrorless camera? Because if you didn't use a mirrorless to shoot it then I'm not going to love it anymore." What most people care about is the end result, not the tool.
@PJ-om2wq4 ай бұрын
The D780 is about the same price as one good Z mount lens, and you cannot autofocus AF-D lenses with an FTZ adapter. If you have a few AF-D lenses then thre D780 is cheap, and, if you want to shoot video with the classic look of 105mm DC or 180 f/2.8 D then the D780 is the *only* body that can do it. And then there's the amazing battery life as well. This is why, in 2024, I just bought one.
