I have had my D800 for a couple of weeks now and the quality of the images are fantastic. I did have concerns about the autofocus and green tint on the LCD screen but was advised that this was on the early batches that were sent out from Nikon and has been resolved. Everything seems to be working and pleased that I bought one. This fits in with my D3 and used them for a wedding last weekend and my clients are pleased with the large prints they had made 40 x 30 inches. Great camera, buy one now

I sold my D800 in favor of a D700 and a D3. The D800 was simply not usable at ISO 2000 or above, it is very sensitive and prone to vibration even from the shutter itself which for macro photography is a complete nightmare. The top lefthand corner of the screen had issues with AF and working with 80MB files per picture was a total pain the arse. I much rather have two bodies that can actually deliver great results at ISO 4000, 5000 and 6400, one with fantastic AF and burst rate and the other with amazing color and image quality.

@jadewarrior79 yes from the specs and samples available at the moment its looks to be a great camera, looking forward to getting my hands on it and give it a real world test

The D800 is *better* in low light than the D700. It's on a par with the D3S. Yes, you need to downsample to 12MP, but so what? That's the only way to run a fair comparison. The point is that the D800 can produce a fantastic 36MP shot in good light or a fantastic 12MP shot in low light. It gives you the best of both. The D3S can only offer one of these. The D700 is still a fantastic camera, but it's yesterday's news.

@Rfocused1 - no problem for definite without the AA filter you will end up with nasty moire in your video which as im sure you know is almost impossible to remove from video, so D800 would be the way to go

I learnt this lesson the hard way. I swapped my D800 for a used D700 and grip plus old version 70-200mm VR. Couldn't be happier. Also sold off some other lenses and bought the new 28mm 1.8G. The only two lenses I really would ever need. Looking back though, it was worth it to get a chance to play around with the D800. Resolution and DR was unbelievable. Wouldn't mind buying one again in the future. After I upgrade my desktop and notebook first though :p

@Rfocused1 hi yeah without the AA filter the resolution will be much better retaining more details over the D800 but not enough for me to want one as it has another effect you will be prone to Moire and that will also affect the video on the D800e and i want the video aspect the extra detail in my eyes is not worth the extra work in post to correct it, however that said landscape and studio only shooters will love this option.

@Barbadus going off the samples i have seen, and hands on time with a D800 sample camera it looks on par with D700, and don't forget you can down sample the images as well which will clean up the noise, i will be doing a review once mine arrives in next couple of weeks, subscribe to the channel as there will be a raft of reviews on D800 once mine arrives.
@OrangeBoxPhoto12 жыл бұрын
@Barbadus D700 is slightly better in low light in comparison to a D800 and simply it comes down to sensor size and the pixels on it, a 35mm sensor with 12mp is less prone to noise than a 36mp sensor as there are less pixels crammed on the sensor, however and here's the thing if you were to down-sample a 36mp image to 12mp you would have less noise and a cleaner image because its a smaller size so noise is less visible although you would have to add sharpening after down sampling.

true it is a great camera mine i got one of the first out and unfortunately was plagued by focus issue, but sent into NPS and now its perfect worth every penny. only i have is LR4 does not like to process d800 raw file lr4 is slow to open / view them, i have switch to capture one and opening and playing with my raw files are smooth and fast, think lr4 is not tweaked enough to handle such larger files cos against capture one its slow.

it would do the job but personally i think it would be overkill a D700 can be had at a fraction of the cost and would be a better fit for street style photography over the D800. i guess the question is do you need 36mp for this style of photography?

I use the D800 mainly for video (see my Cover2Cover promo video) which was very low light. iso 1600. Ive not really had any problems for wedding photography but do have a D3 as my backup camera.

thanks, i'm still unsure what's the difference between those two cameras .
@OrangeBoxPhoto12 жыл бұрын
yes this is true in alot of cases and isnt limited to buying camera's but at the end of the day buying 3k or 5k plus camera doesn't make you a better photographer arguably could make you worse as you wont understand its functions or uses therefore increasing the chance you will make mistakes etc.

@OrangeBoxPhoto So as a filmmaker I'm assuming the D800 is the better one for me then. Thanks alot :)

@bobyphoto thanks yeah D800 looks great camera esp for what i shoot, id like a D4 if honest but i cant justify the cost at this point as it doesn't fit what i need, it has to make sense and earn me money at the moment a D4 is just more than i need but who knows what the future holds, as for a D700 replacement i would have liked one too as the low light of that camera is truly great who knows fingers crossed in a year or so we will get a D4 sensor in a smaller body :)

@yabbayabbadoooh thanks! not really considering all the available samples out prior to this video, and since actually getting hands on time as well im extremely impressed more so considering the camera was a sample version, i don't think poorly of the 5d mII in fact its a great camera esp for video, i was pointing out that Nikon has eventually put decent video in a dslr 5d is well known for its superb video, congrats glad you like D700 it is a nice camera im sure you will love it.
@OrangeBoxPhoto12 жыл бұрын
D700 is still an extremely capable camera, D800 is slightly better in IQ but as you say you need to buy based on what you need, i shoot alot of commercial stuff so the large MP is a mist for me but 12mp would still easily allow 30" prints with ease. money you save could buy some nice glass and in my opinion glass is better purchase than any body! glass first body later
@OrangeBoxPhoto12 жыл бұрын
true d800 is better in respect of the D700, that said D700 now makes it a great prospect to get into a FX camera at an afordable price although there will soon be a new baby FX in the nikon range aka D600
@Rfocused113 жыл бұрын
Do you think that the image quality between the d800 and the d800e will be that different or no?
@exit197912 жыл бұрын
D800 has better ISO performance hands down. Got one of the first units to arrive in Malaysia. But last week, sold it after 3 months and 8k shots.... Hahaha. Reason being I'm a hobbyist and 75MB RAW files was too much of a chore. Mine also suffered the dreaded left bank AF focus issue. Bought a used D700 with grip and its more than enough for my needs. Pure joy. D800 had significantly better IQ, but a bit overkill as i am not planning to shoot the cover of National Geographic anytime soon :)

how are you shooting a wedding with it when its worse in low light than the d700 and the d600?
@yabbayabbadoooh12 жыл бұрын
I like you thoughts aNd impressions of the d 800 but are you not being a tad presumptuous at the minute you're saying the d800 is a great camera only time will tell dont knock the canon 5 d mark iii it's no slouch 22 million pixels is enough I should know I had a 5 d mark ii but I converted to Nikon big jump but I'm the proud owner of a d700 and I can't wait to get me some serious glass

No my d800 batch no 801xxxx has a green tint lcd and its not with the early batches, its with the new batches as well. My battery runs out very quickly, the iso on 400 seems to be getting a lot of noise and the lcd plastic protector is scratched. All these problems and i cannot get a refund because the company states so refund or exchange only repairs. I have the worst luck

is d800 good for documentary and street photography?
@SLRist12 жыл бұрын
If you need more than 4FPS or have a limited budget, get a D700. Otherwise the D800 is the camera to buy.

Check my videos "Cover 2 Cover. These were shot in an extremely dark venue and the lights on stage were low powered. The video was on the Nikon D800 at ISO 2000 at f4 using the built in mic.
