Having shot full-frame DSLR's for years AND two different bridge cameras (for times when I had to roll video AND stills at the same time) I really appreciate the effort you are putting into these videos to show what can be done with a bridge camera. Your results are really astounding and should be taken seriously by photographers even with much more sophisticated gear. Please keep up the great work.

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE I shot full-frame film and DSLR's for most of my 40+ years as a press photographer. Shooting video for my paper's online product taught me a real respect for bridge cameras. I now shoot a Canon SX60hs and pair of Leica 114's for fun and wildlife. I liked my Nikon P900 except for blackout and its poor EVF, rectified in the P950. I put my Canon SX60 to the test last night (fine JPEG mode) and fired off about 450 frames in high-speed mode with no blackout and no slowing down before I gave up trying to cause it to blackout. I'd love to hear what you think of the SX70hs if you ever did a review.

Great advice. Really pleased I'm not the only one to have encountered some "enlightened" comments when out birding, though the stone throwing was a bit much. Based on your down-to-earth and honest reviews, I got off the fence and bought a used P950. I figured that it would be easier to carry with my usual birding kit (telescope, tripod, binoculars and flask of coffee). I have not been disappointed and have some pretty mediocre shots of common, not so-common and rare birds. Before that I tried digiscoping (far too much faffing about) and holding the phone to the scope (very poor quality). Now I can scope the bird, get out the P950 and get a decent record shot at 2000mm zoom, 1.8x digital zoom, 1/40th sec and f6.5. (at ISO 200) handheld. It won't win any competitions, but I don't care - I have that memory. Like you say, it's all down to expectations.

I've now watched some of their videos and decided to buy the Nikon P950. I am currently taking photos with a Lumix G81 and an Olympus 75mm-300mm. The range is not very large here and better lenses with a longer focal length are too expensive for me and also too cumbersome to use. I've only had one hand since I was born and it gets awkward with the Olympus 75-300mm when I mount it on the camera. I would be happy to see more videos of them, because you learn a lot in the process.

I got the p950 after frustration with the reach of my d500 sigma 150-600. I have been delighted with the results when I go out with the P950 and the d500. The d500/sigma is a very easy to use combination. I am discovering that you need a lot more care to get good results from the P950. In a way it reminds me of bird photography in the 1960's when there was usually a steep learning curve to get to the point of getting really good results. I am enjoying it enormously and your videos have been very useful, saving me quite a lot of time.

I got the P950 because I was tired of carrying lenses and DSLR around on my bird photography trips. Weight is a problem if you have arthritis of the hands. Your videos are filling the GAPs otherwise I had this great camera. Many thanks for being generous with your sharing. Just want to share, put the camera on the Macro setting (Flower from AUTO-Focus/Mountain/Flower)for excellent BOKEH on any focal length. Best for 100-400mm. At longer mm, it provides automatically, if you put on Aperture Mode. I would suggest going for 400 ISO in bright daylight for a wider aperture or through exposure compensation. This doesn't make the picture grainy at all.

Hi Stafford, a question please if I may. Taking video using the P1000, and shooting almost at maximum zoom, such as in wildlife videography, I had a problem with keeping the camera in focus on a subject. Can you comment please.
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE Жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed this comment and question. There are a few ways to do this. You could turn off the focus system when it is in focus. Go to manual focus once the subject is in focus. I find that the hunting focus video distracting. Every camera does this with going back and forth between focus and refocus tracking a still subject. SO you can allow the camera to focus spot on and quickly turn off the focus. If the subject moves again flip the switch to back on and regain focus. The P1000 has a slow focus so be patient we are not talking about a canon r5 here right .. .HOpe this helps.

Thanks for this helpful tips. Just a Q: Does using the Remote for the Nikon 1000 help reduce the shakiness if I put the Camera on a Tripod? I mean with the Remote I can take the shots, zoom in and out etc.. While doing this with hand will result into shakiness, specially on high mm (1000mm and above). I don't know if you tried the Remote but I would love to hear your opinion.

Thomas ideally you want spot focus on the head and eyes because the depth of field is so narrow when you have 2000 to 3000mm lens. Also the massive compression distorts the image as well. Hope this makes sense..

The manual focus on the P950 ‘looks’ similar to my Lumix FZ300, which I find to be finicky because it is fly by wire. So for bird photos I often loose the shot because l spend that extra second trying to get the manual focus to focus on the bird and not the branch. Any thoughts on the ease of use manual focusing on the P950. Thanks.
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE3 жыл бұрын
So for me, I have the thumb wheel that does manual focus. I usually get the focus close with autofocus then switch off the auto focus and instead use the wheel with Manual Focus assist that turns the bird RED. If i see the red outline on the bird I hammer on the exposure button. It takes some time but you will find once you use the MF exposure with focus assist and the bird turns a different color just hit that key and trust it does its job. Hope this helps.
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE3 жыл бұрын
I should note I do this in low light more so. As in low light the camera focus goes back and forth, shutting off auto focus and slightly adjust mf with assist seems to be faster.
@bebopkirby3 жыл бұрын
@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE Thanks so much. The FZ300 seems to have a faster manual focusing approach. When you half press to auto focus you can program camera to use the manual focus wheel immediately. The problem is getting the electronic controlled focus wheel to stop on where you want it to focus, which it usually will not on first try. Causing one to miss many woodland birds. Very frustrating, and I view it as a design flaw .
